tEh DiX
hey folks....just wanted to share my experience for some of the noobs out there that don't have a clue where to start first thing, i've read through tons of forums, and wiki's and blah blah blah and had some limited success with hackintosh...until now so i would like to show how i got my system up n running the hardware: gigabyte EP43-UD3L 8 gb of 1066 ocz reaper ram (cheap with neat looking but essentially pointless heat pipes since these babes barely OC at all) core 2 duo 2.33 FSB 1033 OC'd to 2.8 as if it matters cheap 250GB SATA I maxtor? HD D-Link DWA-552 desktop N wifi adaptor sapphire X1800XTX graphics acer P221W monitor cheap logitech wireless kb/m check the websites if you want to see the exact specs the softies: kaylway 10.5.2 disk gparted disk vista disk easybcd instructions: burn all 3 disks first off install Vista, it doesn't matter if you use the entire hard drive as you can change that later will explain how once Vista is installed download and install EasyBCD which is a boot loader config tool for Vista note that you will use the Vista boot loader to boot Mac right-click My Computer in Vista and click Manage you will see Disk Management and once open you will see your entire C: drive listed (assuming no odd options added by you on install) right-click the C: drive and choose Shrink Shrink the drive enough to install OSX and close click Run from the start menu and type Diskpart once in Diskpart type: select disk 0 list partitions create partition primary id=af wait a few seconds and once it tells you it's all done, close out of diskpart put your kalyway dvd in the drive and reboot choose to boot from your disk (check BIOS settings if you can't and change first boot device to DVD drive) the mac installer will start choose your language once the installer starts click on tools and disk utilities in the upper menu choose the second partition on the disk and click erase, note that this shouldn't be your vista partition and should be the size that you had chosen previously nows a good time to mention that i am not responsible for your box getting broken for any reason so do all with care and cross your fingers and i wouldnt try any of this on any comp that isnt completely sacrificial now close the disk utility, click continue, click agree and choose the new partition when it asks you where you want to install mac now you'll see a screen with a Customize button, click customize choose the third party apps you wish to have if using my exact system then choose the two ATI X1000 series graphics drivers and choose Vanilla kernel and un-check the sleep kernel default continue with install once installed it will reboot with your disk still in the drive acting as the boot loader and will bring you to the mac config screens fill these in as if you would any other install with wireless password, username, etc. you now have a working hackintosh remove teh disk, put in the gparted disk, and reboot select all defaults on gparted until you get to the gparted desktop click on teh NTFS drive in gparted and click Manage Flags check the Boot flag and close reboot and remove disk this will now boot into vista once in vista open easybcd click add entry add a Mac entry listed as generic oxs86 entry and name it waht you wish reboot and you will see Vista and your mac installation named what you chose above choose the vista selection and you will boot into vista choose the mac selection and you will go to the Darwin boot loader you will need to click the down arrow (within 5 seconds or so) and hit the enter key when the mac partition is selected if using my hardware setup you will not need any boot options boom...you all done a few notes - comp doesnt reboot properly, have to hard reset the system after hitting reboot but no probs with my setup doing that i had to enable AHCI on my mobo after installing vista in order to boot the mac install disk and have it recognize the second disk partition if AHCI was enabled then vista 64 would not install (using no service pack version) so you will need to install vista with AHCI disabled in order to boot vista now you will need to edit the registry before changing to AHCI enabled - there is a MS KB on this that i won't get into but it essentially allows you to enable AHCI in vista without it crashing on boot also, i have no working sound as i imagine i need a KEXT for this box that i don't have video works great however at 1680x1050x32@60 without editing or changing a thing in mac but with using the aforementioned hw and choosing the ATI X1K on install as mentioned also one word of warn is you should make sure to install all vista drivers right upon installation before installing SP1 if you so choose to do so or risk getting the CRCDISK.SYS problem with this hardware and if that does happen, just suck it up and waste a few hours reformatting as there seems to be little knowledge on how to fix this error at this point...avoid the whole debacle by not installing SP1 this isnt a perfect install but it's pretty good to get you started, hopefully somebody will show me teh kexty way to make my sound work but other than that i can't complain at all. also, not sure the graphics are perfect and the wifi card skips a beat from time to time but still, i saved like 2K from buying a comparable haktosh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155024-installing-kalyway-1052-dual-boot-vista-64/ Share on other sites
