so i set these up in the shopping cart to see what the price is. its 825.67 as a grand total. If i would have any compatibility issues please let me know. also if you know of maybe a cheaper graphics card i might be interested in. I would like to to be compatible and closer to the 100 mark where I can still play some games. I'm not much of a gamer but like to play every now and then. Basicly if the graphics card can run a dvd smoothly but not be to crappy that would be nice thanks.

Core i7 is still expensive and I don't think you can use the retail Mac OS X kernel (please correct me if I'm wrong). The OP's proposed system looks pretty good to me. It's pretty similar to my system, which is rock stable. Get a good CPU heatsink and clock that bad boy!

can i switch my cpu to the core 2 duo and still have a pretty satisfying speed. my lap top is a core 2 duo with 4 gigs of ram and im pretty satisfied with its performance. and considering the fact that i like the performance of the G5's and newer iMacs will i be fine with the core 2 duo?

and im not even thinking about a core i7. intel has already announced another chip beyond the i7, ill stick to the more known and tested cpu's that are used in hacked macs. if anything this board i believe supports the core 2 extreme so ill just upgrade to one of those later or just build another mac.

thanks for the help

Core 2 Duo should be fine for most uses. Many programs aren't optimized for more than 2 cores anyway.

Something like an E7400 should fit your budget, and I bet it will overclock halfway decently besides. The mobo you picked is a good one. It'll give you lots of room to grow when you can afford a Core 2 Quad.
