MetalFanLiam
Hey guys, new computer and new problem. I have attempted to boot off two kalyway distros, 10.5.1 and 10.5.2, however, they all result in the same error. My computer is indeed 64bit, but is x86-64, meaning i can run 32bit software as efficient as a 32bit computer could. However, after the darwin prompt appears, and i boot, it loads up the drivers, but then shows a glimpse of the second black screen with white text (the one that shows kernel panics etc) before rebooting. I have tried -v, -x, and all results in the same thing. If i try cpus=one (because i have a quad core processor), the second black screen loads up, however, i get the error of "Waiting for root device". I have to harddrives installed, one IDE, and one SATA. My cd/dvd drive is SATA. The IDE has no slave, as far as im aware of. I have a partition situated on the SATA and IDE drives. The structure is below: SATA DRIVE - 500GB PARTITION 1 (/DEV/SDA1) NQSERVICE - ACER RECOVERY - NTFS PARTITION 2 (/DEV/SDA2) VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64BIT - NTFS IDE DRIVE - 160GB PARTITION 1 (/DEV/SDB1) LINUX UBUNTU X86_64 8.10 - EXT3 PARTITION 2 (/DEV/SDB2) LINUX-SWAP - SWAP PARTITION 3 (/DEV/SDB3) FAT32 PARTITION ( FOR OSX86 ) This current computer has the following processor info: Number of cores 4 (max 4) Number of threads 4 (max 4) Name Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Codename Kentsfield Specification Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz Package Socket 775 LGA (platform ID = 4h) CPUID 6.F.B Extended CPUID 6.F Core Stepping G0 Technology 65 nm Core Speed 1599.9 MHz (6.0 x 266.7 MHz) Rated Bus speed 1066.6 MHz Stock frequency 2666 MHz Instructions sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, EM64T L1 Data cache 4 x 32 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size L1 Instruction cache 4 x 32 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size L2 cache 2 x 4096 KBytes, 16-way set associative, 64-byte line size FID/VID Control yes FID range 6.0x - 10.0x max VID 1.300 V Features XD, VT and the following chipset info: Northbridge NVIDIA GeForce 7100 rev. I am not sure whether it is an issue with my computer architecture (64bit) or my harddrives. I do not know how to remedy this situation. Any help is appreciated. The waiting for root device is really annoying. Thanks, MFL Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/154462-installer-will-not-load/ Share on other sites
Dark Horse
My understanding is that a "Waiting for root device" error indicates that you need to select an I/O chipset. For example I selected the "intel ICH10 SATA support" chipset in iPC 10.5.6 for my notebook (because it matches the chipset in the notebook), and that "Waiting for root device" error disappeared. dh Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/154462-installer-will-not-load/#findComment-1088680 Share on other sites
