Hello all!

I've been lurking for a while, trying to answer my own questions by using the search function, so I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time here.

I have downloaded 2 different 10.4.4/10.4.5 patched ISOs from the favorite spots. When I try to boot from them, I get stuck at the gray screen. If I use the "-v" switch, I notice that the install stops just after showing the Copyright notice, and there is a solid white text box, and that's it.

My hardware follows:

Intel P4 2.8 Northwood (800MHz FSB) with SSE and SSE2 support

ASUS P4P-800E Deluxe

-Chipset: Intel 865, Southbridge: Intel ICH5

NVidia 6800GT (AGP)

2GB RAM

ATA (not SATA drives), one is dedicated to this install, the other has Win2K3

I've tried connecting one drive and one DVD to a primary IDE, disconnecting Win2K3's drive for safety. I've tried booting from either DVD. I've tried with and without Hyperthreading enabled. No change in where it hangs during boot.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

One more note: I've disabled the onboard RAID completely, and have set the chipset to PATA only, and I've also switched it back and forth between compatibility mode and Enhanced mode (if I recall correctly), no changes.

Thanks again.

More details: I've tried both DVD ROMs, they are:

Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1673S

Lite-On DVD SOHD-167T (It's a Sony, manufactured by Lite-On, that I've reflashed with Lite-On firmware)

I tried my DVD in my IBM T40 laptop, and I can get all the way to the Installer.

I tried a VMWare install, and the installation CD comes up and lets me install to a persistent independent dis. After rebooting, the system comes up, spews lots of file loading messages, and reboots before the GUI. If I use "-F -x" it goes to gray screen with gray apple, and reboots before the blue screen.

If I try to run it under VMWare, it does the same thing, just loads and then reboots about the time the blue GUI should kick in.

Any ideas? I've spent a couple of days searching these two issues (hang on native install CD, and the crash/reboot after doing a VMWare install), and I can't find a thing. My motherboard is supposedly compatible.

Yeap, I do have the same but with Parallels, any ideas? :(
