Marci
Work just bought a suite of iMacs and an X-Server, which have been put in my charge... so I figured time to get more acquainted with OSX. Opted for Kalyway 10.5.1 on my Sony Vaio VGN-A197XP (Pentium M 1.8Ghz, 1Gb Ram, 80Gb HDD, Radeon Mobility 9700, Intel2200BG Wireless). Installed relatively painlessly... vanilla options caused reboot, so ended up installing as follows: +SSE2 System +NATIT_ATICards +AZALIA_out +BOOT_efi_mbr First reboot resulted in MAJOR graphics issues... summat severely wrong driver-wise, so booted back up off CD, headed to terminal, and deleted all the ATI entries in /System/Libraries/Extensions. Rebooted, and all fine. No wireless, so grabbed iwi2200 package, turned off WEP etc on my router, and set everything to ACLs based on MAC address (to retain a modicum of security). USB, Sound, Ethernet, Wireless, Bluetooth and Firewire all working fine... I don't use PCMCIA slot so *shrug* on that one... All that leaves me with is sorting the graphics. I've hunted around on here for a while (and worked out that the old links need changing from forums. to www./forum/) but so far have found nothing that works... dmesg shows NATIT loading the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Series driver... but displays only lists 1024x768 for resolution choices... How would I correct this?? /var/log/system.log: Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Found device Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Found device name Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @0,device_type=display Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @0,compatible=ATY,Alopias Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @1,display-connect-flags=0x00000400 Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @1,name=ATY,Alopias Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @0,display-connect-flags=0x00000400 Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting device_type=ATY,AlopiasParent Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro mDNSResponder mDNSResponder-164 (Nov 4 2007 13:23:04)[22]: starting Feb 20 19:42:58 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @0,name=ATY,Alopias Feb 20 19:42:59 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @1,compatible=ATY,Alopias Feb 20 19:42:59 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting @1,device_type=display Feb 20 19:42:59 marcis-mac-pro kernel[0]: Natit: Setting model=ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 Series Whilst I hunt further, shall get Garageband etc installed off my genOSX disc... Marci
Heh - sods law. I have the OSX discs that came bundled with an iMac from work, and the optional software bundles (Garageband etc) will only install if the system is recognised as an iMac. Arse. Not to worry... Got Cubase Studio, NI GuitarRig2 & Adobe Web Design Premium CS3 working... Graphics problems partially solved using Callisto b003... now running at 1920x1600...
