You're using the jargon wrong!

The extended partition holds the logical partitions.

You can have a maximum of 4 primary partitions. Or 3 primary partitions, and 1 extended partition.

Once again, remember that the extended partition holds the logical ones. Can hold over 100!

But yes, what you have in your screenshot is correct.

Hello nullnull, I am inviting you to check out this guide and follow the instructions here at this link: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...2749fe1033.mspx .You will have to repeat the instructions a second time for the 3rd partition you are installing.

what different about primary partition and extended partition for installer OS

Hi,

You're welcome.

Tell me all the OS you are planning on installing.

Different OSs work in different ways.

I'm the best person to talk to for this kind of thing, as I am planning on installing 9 different operating systems on my computer.

On MBR disks, Windows must be installed in a primary partition. Linux is not so limited; it's happy on either primary or logical partitions. Thus, the setup you initially suggested, with two primaries for your two versions of Windows and Linux on logicals, is probably the best approach.

As a semi-side note, in the not-too-distant future we'll all be using GPT partitions rather than MBR partitions, since MBR maxes out at 2 TB sizes, and disks are rapidly approaching that size. Mac OS and Linux are both happy with GPT disks. I've read that Windows 7 is, too. Windows Vista and earlier cannot, AFAIK, boot from GPT disks except on EFI-based hardware, so GPT isn't really an option for your configuration.
