Mike Baker
Hey everyone – I'm new to OSX86 and Mac stuff, so I apologize in advance if some of my statements don't make sense. I'm trying to load iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 onto an IBM ThinkPad T42 (Model 2373). At the moment, I'm stuck on the "still waiting for root device…" error, which I can't seem to get past. I've done a *LOT* of searching and experimenting, but nothing has helped. I thought perhaps I was missing the correct ATA driver for the hard disk, but I'm not sure that's the case. When I boot up via the DVD, and open a terminal window, I can access the hard disk just fine (I think). I'm able to navigate to "Volumes/Leopard" which appears to be where the hard disk is mounted. The first time I do a listing in that location, the hard drive light indicates activity, so I'm just assuming it's the hard disk, since the DVD doesn't seem to be accessed. Here is what I selected during the install: 9.2.0 Netkas Kernel (Speedstep) ACPI-Fix Remove Firewire BatteryManager I didn't select anything for Chipset, Audio, Network, or Video. I've tried so many things that they start to blur together in my mind, but I think I selected the Netkas Kernel based on the experience of someone else with a T42. What do the gurus suggest I do next? I was about to investigate the disabler.kext file I downloaded, but I'm not exactly sure how to get it onto the machine from my Windows box. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance! ****** UPDATE ****** Some more info. ikosuave
Can't someone show a noob some love I realize this is now MONTHS later, but have you ever found a solution to this? Did you get 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 installed on the T42? I'm in the midst of trying out OS X on my T42 and could use the help... I've been able to get Kalyway's 10.5.2 up and running, got WiFi support, but haven't messed around with graphics yet. If I upgrade to 10.5.3 (Combo Update) it wrecks my WiFi support for some reason. There are other issues I'm having with this distro, so I'd rather try a newer one (10.5.5) in hopes that it solves some of the issues I've been having. btre
have you installed the 10.5.5 on t42 yet? I've just installed ideneb 10.5.6 on it(t42-2373), the problem is because u didn't select ATA related kext, I've choosed ICHx and I think you can also try to select it when re-install the OS. kwr66
still waiting for root device is when you don't select chipset drivers. it says so on ipc 10.5.6 kalyway 10.5.2 runs fine on mine, install for 10.5.6 crashes. stick with kalyway and no combo updates. hey speaking of wireless do you have the kext? for t42 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153545-ideneb-v13-1055-on-thinkpad-t42/#findComment-1547684 Share on other sites
