fanboy
I bought a macbook about 3 months ago and want to install OS X onto my pc now. I have tried a few bootloaders including the generic one and a few custom ones but none gives the desired result. The darwin/x86 bootloader loads up fine and takes the retail dvd in. It shows 4 errors regarding device or controller error, pauses for 5 seconds and then continues with the dvd. Then it shifts to the grey apple screen but without any gear working as is the normal case. I have even flashed the bios to the latest version. My configuration is Asus P5PE-VM motherboard Pixela firewire card Sony DVD-RW 160 GB SATA Seagate Baracuda 1 TB SATA Seagate Baracuda Intel Core Duo 2.8 Ghz 2 X 512 MB Ram The DVD just does not go past the grey apple screen it just sits there. Last time I left it for 2 hours but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153515-help-with-retail-leopard-install/ Share on other sites
flock44
Well there are couple of possibilities... Since u said u got MacBook 3 months ago. I hope u are not using the DVD's (Leopard) that u got with MacBook. Those are RESTORE DVD's they do not work to Install OS on other Computer's except on ur MacBook alone for Restore. I just wanned to make sure of tht. Coz i ve MacBook too n thought Restore DVD would work did some research and this is wat i came to know that i need Retail DVD. ** Now if you have Retail Leopard DVD THEN all you have to do is Get a SATA DVD Drive. Coz IDE DVD Drive is the only thing which Stops your installation at Apple Screen. Let me know if you case matches any of the above. Good Luck...! Thath0r
That's not true, an Restore Disc (Gray Surface) from a Macbook works with every MacBook. But certainly not with your Hardware. You'll have to buy a retail disc from apple. But I was wondering if there is any other way to install OSX86 other than going in for a new SATA DVD Drive??? In the meanwhile, I'll try to get my hands on a RETAIL DVD if tht can be hurdle in the install. Hope this works out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153515-help-with-retail-leopard-install/#findComment-1085301 Share on other sites
