Hack-da-Mac
I've tried following this guide and this one to do an upgrade to 10.5.6 After following those directions and when the Apple updater finishes I select reboot. The system shuts down and while powering up it reboots at the white screen w/the Apple and spinning circle. On the next boot it starts up and I can login however the about window still displays 10.5.5 Some things have been changed such as my sound no longer works and the screen display is lacking my custom settings (brightness, colors, etc). Any ideas or links to a guide that will help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to post this in the 10.5.5 section but there doesn't seem to be a 10.5.6 area yet . Here is some details on my hardware / install: iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 on a DELL inspiron 1520. Boot options (@ install) were: -v cpus=2 Selected install options were: PC EFI V9 Apple Decrypt Symbios-EFI Air Stock ACPI Modified Disabler.kext PS/2 (Drivers) Graphics Updates X3100 Intel AHCI SATA Intel Speedstep A Laptop Battery Broadcom 440x Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152393-need-assistance-w1056-upgrade/ Share on other sites

Hack-da-Mac
Interesting question - beyond the obvious of running the latest version there is nothing in particular I'm trying to gain. ---> Last night I tried another restore followed by an upgrade and it was successful ! ! ! So now I'm running 10.5.6 and happy . How did I do it? I ignored the guides in my original post and simply ran the Apple upgrade package. After 2 reboots the sound and sleep mode were broken (solved by applying the same fixes used for 10.5.5) everything else worked as it had before.
