Muddy Mudskipper
I came across this whilst researching external Firewire soundcards/interfaces. This isn't a compatibility list but these sorts of devices usually have Mac drivers, some of the brands are even sold on the Apple store. Gearslutz - least reliable firewire interface Ranking position calculated on number of satisfied customers (score of 1) minus number of dissatisfied customers (score of 2 or 3)From best to worst: RME(18-0) = 18 Echo(19,1) = 18 Motu(20,5) = 15 Mackie(11,2) = 9 Tascam(7,0) = 7 Alesis(3,2) = 1 Presonus(10,11) = -1 Focusrite(4,9) = -5 M-Audio(8,26) = -18 Alternative ranking position calculated on number of satisfied customers divided by total number of customers RME 100% Tascam 100% Echo 95% Mackie 85% Motu 80% Alesis 60% Presonus 48% Focusrite 31% M-Audio 24% That's a *minus* 18 score for M-Audio. Bit Shoveler
I have no experience with M-Audio's FireWire H/W, but I know from long experience with an Audiophile24/96 card that their drivers suck. The MOTU drivers aren't terribly user friendly but they mostly work. This is from experience with an 896 and a pair of 8pre units. I haven't yet found why I will sometimes get dropouts when recording multiple tracks live in Logic Express. They sound *really* nice.. OS X drivers are just basic i/o (stereo), but if you game it's a great card! the dude has his OS X drivers at: http://www.audio-evolution.com/drivers/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/152303-firewire-external-audio-devices/#findComment-1077780 Share on other sites
