aed0101
Finally finished my G5 Mod. The idea was to maintain original G5 aspect without cutting holes in the rear. Will post more detail about the process later. Specs are: Xeon X3220@3,4GHz Processor 4GB DDR2 PC6400 4-4-4-12 RAM GigaByte G33M-DS2R Motherboard NVidia GeForce 8400GS Passive (OS X) ATI HD4850@780/2200 (Windows only. Waiting for it to work with OS X) Netgear GA311 Gigabit Ethernet (Bonjour is not working with the onboard) Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra+ Watercooling Kit (CPU, Northbridge and GPU). Special thanks to SticMan for providing G5 Logic Board and rear fans frame. Thanks to pirloui for help with rear IO panel. Monkey Jam
Where did you get the new case? Was it expensive? it looks like a really nice job though, wouldn't mind making one myself! Only one small thing; maybe add some silver fabric behind the grill at the front to hide the radiator? aed0101
Where did you get the new case? Was it expensive? it looks like a really nice job though, wouldn't mind making one myself! Only one small thing; maybe add some silver fabric behind the grill at the front to hide the radiator? I´ve bought it here: http://www.allmac.com/shop/product_info.ph...roducts_id=4157 Postage to Europe was 150$. Luckily the package was not stopped by Spanish Customs, so I saved around 85$ as VAT and VAT payment handling by the Courier. Actually I was told it would be refurbished case, but it turned out to be new. Those are sold at around 400€ by Apple Service and you need a valid serial number to get one. The radiator itself can not be seen, what you see are 2x120mm Nexus silent fans (actually they are Yate Loons limited at 1000RPM). Silverstones I´ve used before were too noisy and the noise itself was disgusting (even at minimum). I was thinking of placing aluminium dust filter grid, but discarded the idea as it would restrict airflow too much.I used 2x92mm Nexus fans in the rear as original ones were Delta fans and though I was able to connect a fan controller, they made too much noise even at minimum. Now all four Nexus fans are connected to the same controller placed at the aluminium sheet I´ve made to hide the radiator. In the beginning I was thinking of mantaining the plexiglass door (thats why I placed GPU waterblock in that strange manner), but it turned out to be impossible due to the tubing leading to the reservoir. I´ll change the tubing conections the day I change the coolant. Now I have Reservoir -> Pump -> Northbridge -> GPU -> Radiator -> CPU -> Reservoir. It will be better for coolant flow to use Reservoir -> Pump -> Radiator -> CPU -> Northbridge -> GPU -> Reservoir (less tubing, shorter distance, better coolant flow). I´m pleased with placing Bluetooth dongle inside, as putting it in the external usb port makes the case uglier in my opinion.
