Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I hope you dont mind me asking a question or two as my first post.

I recently decided to open up the hood on my wife's 1st gen intel imac and tinker around. I upgraded the HDD and tried upgrading the processor to a santa rosa (yeah, i did not do careful enough research).

After i realized the Santa Rosa was not compatible, I popped the old Core duo back in. Well, I got everything back together ok, but now. I get the black screen upon reboot. I tried resetting the PRAM to see if the grey screen would show. Nothing. I only get the chimes. Does anyone have any advice on what I should try next? I am fairly certain that all of the connections to the lcd is connected good and I would hate to disassemble the thing again (it would be the 4th time). Is there anything else I should try? thanks in advance!

PS: also seems like the internal fans are ALOT louder than they were before. I am really stumped on this one.

Initially the fans were blowing loudly. I opened the case back up and found that I had missed a connection to the fan cooling the GPU(?) and I plugged it back in. That at least took care of the noise. I did not re-seat the CPU but checked all of my connections that were visible. The power light lights up like it would if I was booting up normally. The Superdrive spins my Leo DVD. However, I am not sure but, is it possible that the freshly installed HDD could have something to do with the video not working?

Haha, I have took apart every computer I have ever owned, but this iMac has pretty much humbled me. :)

My wife is not too happy either... I am currently trying to figure out how to Hack my PC (Asus P5Q Pro) to run Kalyway... frustrating to say the least.... but I will save that for a different post. ;)

I seem to remember reading somewhere incompatibility with some HDDs.

There are also reports of HDD firmware incompatibility on some disks - you will find more info on the following site ---- http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
