Interested in this laptop:

It's about half the cost of a 17" MacBook Pro with similar specs, but it also has a built in Blu-Ray player. Main difference is a slightly weaker ATI graphics card (Radeon Mobility 3670 512 MB).

 

Should it run OS X smoothly or are there any known problems with this model or any of the hardware listed below? I'd prefer not paying more for much less (MacBook/MBPro) just so I can run OS X. Tired of Windows after having used Vista and running 7 since public beta, similar annoying problems from Vista still there :)

You might want to try the 17 Vostro. These specs might be better for a Hackintosh and the Vostro is a great computer with a beautiful screen (I think same as the XPS 16 but bigger).
