krimsen
Hi folks! I want to build a hackintosh, too. After searching the forums, I came up with the following combination. It should have decent power (using a first-gen MBP now, so it will be a dramatic performance increase, I hope) while being silent and, most important of all, as hassle-free as can be with a hackintosh. I'd guess a vanilla install should be the most stable alternative so I want to make sure the components are as compatible as they come. CPU: Intel Q6600 boxed, 8192Kb, LGA775, 64bit, Kentsfield Mainboard: GA-EP45-UD3P, Intel P45, ATX, DDR2, PCIe Memory: 4096MB-KIT Corsair XMS2 PC8500, CL5 GFX: ASUS EN9600GT SILENT/HTDI/512M, 512MB, NVIDIA 9600GT, PCIe HDD: Samsung HD103UJ 1TB 32MB SATA II Optical drive: Samsung SH-223F bare not really important, but adding to the silent computing: Case: Antec Solo, ATX Power: BE Quiet! Dark Power Pro P7 550Watt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/151577-hassle-free-hardware-combo/ Share on other sites
broken
I like it. Solid looking component list. I am also using the EP45-UD3P and its been rock solid. Zero problems with it and awesome performance. I can't possibly imagine a board working better than it. Plus it overclocks life a {censored}. Unless you already have the Q6600, perhaps a Q9400 would be a better choice? Since its a 45nm cpu, it will run cooler and be a more future thinking cpu. Also, currently Microcenter.com has it for $179. Quite a bit cheaper than Newegg. I know when I upgrade from my e5200 (which I have running at 3.33 GHz) it will most likely be a Q9400, unless there is a better deal out there at that time. Overall a solid looking setup and should make you very happy. Plus looking at your component list, it appears you are looking at spending somewhere in the neighborhood of what a Mac Mini costs. Except your rig will crush the mini in every possible performance category. Hell, mine drops kicks all the current Mac lineup laptops and desktops alike except the Mac Pro's. krimsen
Thanks for the reply. I'm beginning to like it a lot, too. And, since I'm in the states next month, I could pick up a Q9400 for the same price as the Q6600 here in Germany, yay!
