TheOriginalPol
I've been trying on-and-off for a good two years now, trying to get OS X running on my Compaq laptop. I've tried many many different distros, versions and flavors, but nothing has ever worked for me. Sometimes the installs will go quickly and smoothly (often 15 mins), and then I'll get kernel panics when I try to boot the OS; and sometimes the DVDs won't even boot in the first place. This irregularity is the strange part that I find baffling -- I can boot a DVD once, and it will start up very quickly, and everything will work -- then I can shut it off, boot it again using the exact same flags, and it won't go anywhere or it'll be slow as hell, and the PS2 controllers wont work (they usually don't)... When I can't boot, or get a panic, it's never the same error. It always says something different -- though there are a few popular ones, like the nForce's infamous "waiting for root device". A lot of the times the system just hangs without warning or notification at all. Anyway. I suppose I want a little bit of light shed on this situation. Most people would have given up by now, but I keep persisting, because I have a sneaking hunch that there is something VERY simple here to fix this that I'm missing. It's GOT to be able to work somehow, if I can boot the graphic installer, right!? I'm not a terrible noob; I can certainly make my way around a filesystem. But when it comes to codes and programming I'm like a delete key on a Mac -- useless. So does anyone, anyone at all have insight or experience with these models? My specs: AMD Mobile Sempron 3500+ (not great) NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (also not great) Broadcom 4311 (I think) Conexant HD Audio I'm installing onto a 2.5'' SATA drive that I connect via USB -- I boot from that too -- though I have also tried replacing my internal drive with it a few times, to no avail... Oh, and before you say it -- YES, I've searched every forum, and I've run google dry. There are only a few measley threads out there on this model, and none of them are useful. Hopefully this one will be! Thanks so much for your help. TheOriginalPol
UPDATE: I tried the iPC PPF5 latest release with high hopes, and no luck. So then I tried a bare install, with pretty much nothing but the Kernel, Seatbelt.kext, and my chipset driver -- and it worked. Barely. It took about 15-20 minutes to boot up, and when it finally did, it played through the little welcome video (less than 1 fps) and I proceeded to set up my account and all. The system was working very slowly, and was lethargic to every click and so on. Then, after the final step, crating my user account, it went to a blue screen and did nothing more. It was frozen... and after that, it wouldn't boot back up again. I tried the exact same reinstallation configuration again, but it's not working at all anymore. Weird...? Anyone? Please?
