macintoshMan
I'm trying to do a Leo4All 10.4 Tiger install on my AMD frankenstein machine. The DVD I burned(with Alcohol 120) seems to work - it gets me into the MAC OS X install screen, I create an extended journaled partition on my 40GB IDE HDD, and then it can freeze up in one of two steps; if I click Customize on the install screen, it freezes up, if I just click Install it runs for an hour or so, with the progress bar clipping along, and at about 50-60% it freezes up. I do have 4GB of ram, and I saw in one post can be issue. Can anyone tell me what's going on, or how to gather more info on what to do? Also I'm not trying to dual boot, in the Disk Utility I clicked on the drive, clicked Erase, and picked extended journaled. is there anything specific I need to do as far as setting the MBR? macintoshMan
Ok I tried again and now things are a bit different: It turns out I was using Leo4All 10.5.2 which I guess makes it Leopard instead of Tiger? If this is the case, could a moderator move this thread to the Leopard forum? sorry bout that... I took 2GB of ram out of my machine and tried it with just 2GB instead of 4GB and it WORKED!!! sort of... It finished the install and said everything was fine and I should reboot, but I took the install DVD out and rebooted and it said some things like: MAC Framework successfully initialized ... HFS: created HFBT on disk0s1 but then it eventually said localhost mdworker[64] (Error) SyncInfo Boot-cache avoidance timed out! localhost kextd[10]: IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out waiting to write kernal symbols locahost configd[35]:InterfaceNamer:timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce localhost configd[35]:InterfaceNamer:no network interfaces, could not update platform UUID CODE SIGNING: cs_invalid_page:p:135[lssave] clearing CS_VALID and then it seemed to freeze with a single character white block. I assume I was supposed to select certain drivers from the Customize window - which is no longer freezing up - so I guess my question now is: given my specs listed in the first post, what should I choose? There is an option for AMD System Fix, should that be checked? What about the ACPIP fix? Could someone familiar with this MOBO/Distro DVD help me out with the options? macintoshMan
Ok, replying to my own thread again... I tried some of the options in the Leo4All install, it seems to have worked! Where I though it was freezing up, it was apparently just catching it's breath. I left the room and came back an hour later, and I have a Mac! I played around with the some of the programs and settings and it looks like most of it is working fine, except for the network settings... I'll take a look in the forums, I imagine that i need a kext file or something to get the LAN working? but there were only 3 options on the install for LAN, I shot from the hip and apparently I guessed wrong. But, as I look around, could someone maybe tip me off if they notice that my hardware is NOT supported? I have the MOBO listed above with an NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller. If this isn't supported, could someone suggest a good (or cheap) pci network card? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/151027-amd-tiger-leo4all-freezes-up/#findComment-1067066 Share on other sites
