keithd1998
Hi, I recently got one of these. They are a cheap quad core, only €379 on pixmania http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/1965654/art/p.../hepc-7511.html If you read through the thread you can see I got it working very cleanly, with 4 cores, Vanilla kernel and sleep etc is working. A good cheap mac pro. The spec is as follows: OMPONENT DESCRIPTION CPU Intel® Core 2 Quad Q6600 Motherboard MSI 7357 Memory 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 (2x 1GB MB) Hard Drive 400GB SATA II hard drive CD / DVD Drive DVD±RW Supermulti drive Floppy Drive Integrated 7 in 1 card reader Video / Graphics Card nVidia® GeForce 8500 GT 256MB (with TurboCache) PCI-Express TV Card Philips TV Card Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio (7.1) Network Card Intel® Pro/1000 PL ethernet - works Firewire Card Via OHCI Compliant IEEE1394 Host Controller Modem Not installed Media Center Remote Philips Windows Vista remote control Case Philips-freevents™ case Network Card RaLink RT2561 / RT2661 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN Keyboard Philips-freevents™ 5545URF Wireless keyboard Mouse Philips-freevents™ 5545URF Wireless mouse Media Center Remote Receiver Philips Vista remote control receiver unit Now I know hald the odd hardware will not work, like the wireless keyboard and remote. The board is a G33 based one which I know people had some problems with but some seem to have it working. First off I updated to the latest BIOS on the MSI site which at this point is version 1.3 I started off with iDeneb 10.5.5 and got it working with Vanilla Kernel ICHx Fixed NVInject 256 alc888 removed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement, Firewire kexts However, this was with CPUS=1. I really want to get all 4 cores going so after a lot of searching around I decided to try iPC 10.5.6. If I use cpus=1 on the dvd boot it works, whoever after the install it won't boot, hanging on the "using XXX buffer headers ..." I have read lots of threads on this problem and it appears what will fix it it and enable all 4 cores is to use a DSDT patch. I don't really under stand this. There are several options on the iPC dvd for DSDT but even after reading a number of threads I don't really get it. Should I install iDeneb and then patch my DSDT or should I install iPC and then patch that from Ubuntu? keithd1998
These are the exact selections I used to get iDeneb to start AC97 Audio ICHxFixed Vanilla Intel100ProVE ACPI-Fix Cpus=1 Firewire Remove SMBIOS1066 NVInject256 All Applications Boots first time Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/150946-leopard-on-philips-freevents-hpec-7511-working-great/#findComment-1066768 Share on other sites
keithd1998
I've made some progress in that I now understand how to run the DSDT patcher. So after my iDeneb install I installed DSDT Patcher and DSDT Patcher GUI from the iPC disc. I ran the GUI and chose the option to install PC EFI 9 Chameleon 1.10.12 and sure enough it was installed and I have an AML file. However I still don't have all cores, but looking in the DSDT.dsl file it appears that there are still aliases on two of the cores. From what I have read before I believe OSX doesn't understand these aliases, so my next step will be to remove them and compile a new aml. I will upload all of these files if I get it right. keithd1998
Ok its looking like I am the only person to have one of these but I got it working great. I updated the BIOS to the one here - http://www.osxcores.site50.net/ However I'm not sure thats required as I didn't have iPC at that point. One gotcha was, to get all cores seen you have to enable execute bit in the bios. Using iPC 10.5.6 Final Select the following during install. intel ICH10 Sata Support alc888 marvel yukon 88e8056 patch DSDT with newHPET AppleSMBios-27 Rev3 Mac Pro I then ran the DSDT Patcher GUI. Installed no video driver, just All working, no cpu=1 one or anything like that. chromazone
Hi Keith, I managed to get one of these machines as well, however I am having some problems with iPC 10.5.6 (ppf5 I think). When I boot from the DVD it gets to the Mac desktop background and then the monitor switches off. Mouse (wired) movement doesn't bring it back... Any ideas??? chromazone
OK that shutting down was a bios problem... the bios available on the link in above articles sorts this out. Now I am stuck with boot loader errors!!! Tried to install to a drive on the ide ... gives a boot 1: error Tried to install to a partion... screws up vista !!!! AAAAGGHHHHHHHH! Installed BCD beta 2 on vista and added a grub loader which now lets me boot to the chameleon commandline... Need usb keyboard and mouse now to complete the next step which I believe is to type -F (once installed the ? command works!!! not so off the dvd) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/150946-leopard-on-philips-freevents-hpec-7511-working-great/#findComment-1123183 Share on other sites
