Hi there,

I decided to jump in and install MacOS X on my system but before that I still have a few questions :

What is the best version to start with as I am a complete noob!

Will wireless or ethernet be working right after install as I'll need a net access to seek for help after that! :D

Is there anything not working at all? Like webcam or sound?

Is there anything else worth knowing before wiping all out? :)

Thank you very much for your time.

If that's your only computer I wouldn't do it. I am a noob too and I have a VAIO. The quick answer is nothing will work without lots of study and effort. I have been trying for a week and still can not get the graphics working. It is not just a matter of selecting the right install ISO. I have tried iatkos, kaly and IPC. The thing is, that won't make it magically work. I believe the answer is more to choose one and learn about it enough to make it work. You may be better off installing to an external HD so you still have a computer to use. (if your computer can boot from and external-USB hard drive)

Thank you very much for your answer!

Well if NOTHING works I think there is no point in trying to install it..

It's a shame since I really wanted to try it out..

Anyway thank you again :wallbash:

DOn't give up, it's fun. Just have another computer to use as a backup first. :P

I just ordered myself a TZ series because I want to have a subnotebook Mac and Apple refuses to make one. All us Sony people are sort of in the same boat, but don't get discouraged! I would recommend starting out with iAtkos or iDeneb and go from there. Its a learning process (well more of a trial and error process), but when it all starts working you'll feel amazed.

Hey some news for you SZ owners. I've tried installing Kalyway 10.5.1 and it installs but no KB or touchpad working unless i plug in usb kb adn mouse, so I decided to try the iATKOS 5i 10.5.5 but it gets stuck on the White apple screen. Now I just downloaded 10.5.2 kalyway and 'm trying that now. As I type the system is rebooting and it's on the apple sscreen. Screen went dark and now nothing. System is still on but a blank screen. I guess I will try installing kalyway 10.5.1 again and see if that will work. Might have been just a bad install.

had to redownload kalyway 10.5.1 as my original disc somehow disappeared. Let you guys know the details later today.

edit: Currently installing iAtkos 5i with the chameleon bootloader and x3100 driver added to the default checked items in the customize section. Will see how it goes. Kalyway 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 still being downloaded.

edit2: iAtkos will not install properly. It gets stuck on the white apple bootup screen. Trying an install of a new kalyway 10.5.1 dvd iso. Next I will try the iatkos with different bootloader and vga driver

I tried with the iAtkos 5 DVD and nothing! Laptop can't boot! I always get a black screen at boot, after the grey Apple screen, then small multicolour vertical lines appear on the screen until itbecomes all white..

I tried all the kernels, with and without the X3100 driver, with and without the -x parameter and still nothing so... I got back to Windows for now..

That's what I got no matter what I tried. I now am running OSX on my other computer. I am holding off with the laptop for now.
