I have downloaded and tried to install several versions, Iatkos, Kalyway, Uphuck, etc. I have seen several guides and threads where folk have done one of several versions and said it works. My problem is that I don't know what settings work. I have Iatkos 4i and it got me the closest. I was excited. I was able to get it to boot up in safe mode and set it up. My webcam was working the wireless internet was working. Now, there was no sound and screen resolution was low. So I read in a thread that you could update it to 5.5 and it everything would work. Well nothing worked it wouldn't even boot. And secondly I can't remember all of the installation settings I chose. Since then, I haven't even gotten close.

As I said I have several disks and will download another if I know that I can get it up and working.

Dell Inspiron 1720

Intel Core duo

2 Hard drives (1 250 that came with computer, 1 320 that I added) both SATA

I want to dual boot. I understand how to dual boot, but I don't want to touch the Vista side if possible. If I have to start completely over I will but I just want to install OsX on the 320HD and call it a day.

I'm not a computer technician but I wouldn't consider myself a noob. I can follow detailed instructions well.

I appreciate any help and time that anyone gives me. Thank you.

I've also read that I have to switch my BIOS from AHCI to ATA or vice versa. Is this mandatory? Will that mess up my Vista installation? Thanks

So you had the built in wireless internet working on your 1720? I have the same machine and this and restart etc is the only thing not working so if you have any tips please let me know.

Anyway i'll try to help out. I installed with iAtkos 4i also (10.5.4) to the same point you got to then ran the Dell Post Installer from this thread:

This gets almost everything working that you will need though I noticed that one of the power management settings will break the sound when enabled. I forget which one sorry.

OK hope that helps. If you find any way to get shutdown/restart/sleep working, please let me know.

Good luck.
