Hi there,

I look for a solution since hours, hope you can help.

I followed those steps: http://www.espressoreport.com/83/dell-insp...k-pro-tutorial/

My Inspiron is nearly the same, I just have a higher resolution (1440x900)

It works as described but after updating to 10.5.3 and booting with "update -v" I get the attached screen.

At installation, I've chosen vanilla kernel. For the update I tried both once with vanilla kernel and no kernel selection.

After the attached screen, it boots up but ends up in a black screen which cannot be avoided by the "sleep trick".

Hope you can help :)

/edit: found the following solution to remove the "yellow lines"

boot: mount -uw /

root: cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns

root: mv PCGenUSBEHCI.kext PCGenUSBEHCI.kext.old

root: reboot

Thought I might install the right kext later but ... screen is still black

/edit again:

After hours at google and forums I think it's all about kexts. The update overwrites them, so I have to backup them and copy back after the update, right? But how do I know what to backup? I'm quite sure just cp the whole extension folder won't work.

Now I tried this one:

Works as described but black screen in the end. Help please :)

/edit:

Now I backuped the following kexts after update via Install-DVD-Terminal:

AppleIntelGMAX3100

AppleIntelGMAX3100FB

AppleHDA

AppleSMBIOS

But didn't help ...

/another edit:

I did the sleeptrick again, now I've got a black screen with movable beachball ...
