Problems: Dell Studio 15: Wallpaper, Audio, more

I know these problems are pretty small as I have had a generally successful installation of Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 (the Leo4allv3 version). If anyone has any solutions, it would be much appreciated!

1. WALLPAPER: for some reason, the wallpaper does not load when it starts up. If I log out and log back into my account, it works.
   
2. BOOT: I get no apple loading screen and it's really fast boot with some text showing up.
   
3. ALPS Trackpad: no scrolling?!?! and how do I do multi touch, if I can
   
4. AUDIO: I get audio but I can't control the volume except throught the program it's playing from. Also, the headphone jacks work but when plugged in, they don't mute the laptop speaker sound
