ForestGuardian
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=128274 This method works well for several motherboard types. You'll have to find kexts for specific components (audio, LAN, wireless) if you still need to enable them post-installation. GL. Acidic
thx forest! okay i downloaded Asus P5W-DH by macita (lightweight version by MACinized) and burnt a disc from the .iso he gave me. I rebooted my comp and booted onto that disc. i ejected the bootloader and put in retail leopard. hit enter twice, and it started to load.... first off it gave me ebios device errors.... then it told me the computer could not start... pausing 5 seconds.... it then flashed me some more code something like cpu 9.... i saw the white screen with gray apple for a second! then my computer rebooted.... i have tried to repeat this process with -v and -x. am i using the wrong boot-132? thanks again. ForestGuardian
hey forest, im still attempting to use the boot-132 method. so far ive downloaed and burnt 2 different boot-132 discs one built for the p5w dh deluxe and one just a generic bootloader. everytime i get a error that says "a error occured pausing 5 seconds" then the screen flashes the while apple logo screen then the computer reboots. I've also tried this with -v and -x no luck. any help is apprecited thanks -v flags verbose mode so you can see the bootlog. What does it say before the reboot? We'll need to know the last 4-5 lines to isolate the cause. If you can post a picture of the screen before it restarts, do so. You may need to post your BIOS settings as well. Get that list ready just in case we can't determine the problem from the boot log. My guess is that you have a new or recent version of Leopard retail. Many of the customized boot loaders (like Boot-132) have been based on compatibility with 10.5.1, and are probably outdated for use with your copy if yours is the 10.5.4 retail (I don't know if there was a 10.5.2 or 10.5.3 DVD released). In any case, check what version you have from the box or from the kernel version listed in the boot log (if it gets that far). If it is indeed an updated DVD, then you'll have to find an bootloader for that or build one yourself. Acidic
YESSSS! its working!! but theres probably another giant problem looming around the corner. i used Asus P5W-DH by macita (lightweight version by MACinized) instead of a generic boot-132 bootloader and that seemed to work. got past the apple logo screen and finally got the the language selector screen. I guess Ill just follow that guide you recommended now and get OSx finally working! Thanks! Have you tried flashing an older / newer BIOS? It might aleviate some of the hangs and stalls you're experiencing, especially if the market release of your CPU is newer than the motherboard itself. Some people say the older BIOS versions are more compatible, but my motherboard is ASUS as well, is already a year old at least, and I've flased the latest version available. (All's well here except for eSATA - but that's because I had to overwrite a working controller version from 10.5.5 to get to 10.5.6.) - - - Woot! Grats! Have fun! I can successfully boot up leopard with the boot-132 disc..... it boots i press enter and enter "82" and boot on macosx. when i take the cd out and let it boot, the computer goes directly to the white apple logo screen... then crashes ill post the errors soon. I'm gonna try go back and retrace my steps. forresttrenaman
I had no luck with that method either, but I am using the same boot 132 disk as you, so what I did was a lot easier and I did not use terminal once, Just fallow these instructions and if all goes well, then you can delete that mac loader partition. I have had some trouble upgrading to 10.5.6 because of my firewire now working so I am just going to stay at 10.5.5 for now. 22/07/2008 BOOT FROM HARD DISK!! ONLY AFTER THE RETAIL INSTALL USING THE FIRST CD BOOTLOADER.... FROM KALYWAY: Download link : Chameleon_DFE_for_Hard_Disk.zip --->http://tinyurl.com/6je4eh 1 - Copy the contents of your "Extra" folder located in your boot 132 CD in the initrd.img image to the "Extra Contents" directory link !!! 2- then run Chameleon_DFE_for_Hard_Disk.pkg and install it to your hard disk !!! your are done ! now no need to use dfe 132 cd to boot your hd !! enjoy!! by kalyway ! Acidic
the chameleon method worked very well! Thanks! My only problem with it is getting the bootloader to recognize the windows partition. Right now it only recognizes macosX partition and my old boot partition for startup. another thing, does anyone know how to get the bootloader to automatically count down and boot up on mac as default, so when i dont have a keyboard connected it automatically goes?
