456456 Posted January 25, 2009 Share Posted January 25, 2009 ok so i just did a software update like you would do on a real mac and i didnt know you cant do that. so every time i boot up it just goes to a grey screen telling me to hold down the power button or press it. i even tried restalling the software,And when it is done installing and it restarts it does the same exact thing. i have a dell inspiron 9300 help please!!! You can Try to make images of any other partitions or your boot and then read them later after reinstall, but that is the only possible road right now. I think 456456: You will need to boot with the -v switch to see what is causing the kernel panic. I'm guessing it's the kernel itself because your computer doesn't support SSE3 instructions. You will need to boot off of the install disk and install the voodoo kernel at the very minimum.
