andsteele
I have had my white Macbook for about three months ago. Last night I spilled water on it. I turned it off imediatley but forgot to take the battery out. When I walked back into the room after cleaning the mess, my Macbook was booting up! I guess the water must have shorted out the power button. I dried it out, but now it doesn't start at all. Nothing happened when I press the power button, and when I connect the power supply, it doesn't light up. I have an appointment with an Apple Genius today. Does anyone know how much this will set me back? I'm guessing this means a new logic board. I know Apple can be pricey. I just went online looking to see how much logic boards cost. The prices I'm looking at cost more then the laptop itself! I'm worried Apple might charge even more. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. - I'm in the UK. shavex
Yep new logic board, and its much cheaper to find one online and install it yourself or Apple will charge you out the butt and honestly recommend that you just buy a whole new mac (its the same case for everything, if your ipod breaks the suggest buy a new ipod, this is why Apple sucks). And from my quick Google search for logic boards they dont look like they cost any more than half the price of the macbook so I dont know where you have been lookin. realityiswhere
I had a friend with this problem.. bought a $1200 Macbook, spilled coke on it, called Apple and they were gonna charge him $1300 to replace just the logic board. After only a couple of weeks of use (not even months) he ended up just tossing it in the garbage like a piece of trash. andsteele
Hey everyone. Thanks for the info. The guy at the Apple store said it was most likely the logic board. He said a new one would be £450! And for all I know, other parts might also be broken. I only paided £650 for the entire system. I'm afraid I am going to be Mac-less for a long time now Oh well, {censored} happens eh? andsteele
Just to update you guys, my Macbook is now working! I decided to turn it on for some reason, and it powered up! So I put in the hard drive, and OS X booted. I can't believe it! This thing was absolutely soaking. Go Apple! MrWeedster
Hi there. Water damage is normally no problem, as you can see. I did it with a previous owned notebook too - I spilled a glass of orange-juice over it, which ran thru the NB down on the floor. First of all: Dont panic. Then disassemble the complete NB, so that you have your mainboard in front of you. Now it matters if you have spilled normal water or sticky stuff like orangejuice over it. If orangejuice: wash the mainboard with running water and a toothbrush from all rests of orangejuice. After that, let it dry on fresh air for two days, until its really dry. When its dry, go to the pharmacy and buy yourself 99% isopropyl alcohol. Take your toothbrush again, and brush all the rest of the orangejuice off the board with isopropyl and your toothbrush. now let it dry again for one or two days. Reassemble - It should work now. If you just spilled normal water in, then you can skip washing the board with water and go straight to the isopropyl, but dry it first for one or two days. After that all should work normally. regards Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149070-help-done-something-stupid/#findComment-1056910 Share on other sites
