530sCheapMac
I have been working as hard as possible to get iATKOS working on VMware Workstation 6.5, to no avail. attempts and results: all with 50.0 GB disks (HFS Journaled) and 2048 MB RAM OS: Other 64-bit -> "CPU has been disabled by guest OS" OS: Other -> see above OS: FreeBSD 64-bit -> Reboot loop (gray screen w\ apple, loading icon for 3 seconds, the restarts, in a loop) I am using the iATKOS 5i build and just about the same (customized) options every time: PCI EFI V9 AppleDecrypt SMBIOS Enablers Intel SATA Drivers NTFS 3G BTW this is a Dell Studio Slim (530s) Any ideas? UnaClocker
You can't run OSX in VMWare. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147786-reboot-loop/#findComment-1054502 Share on other sites
ForestGuardian
1. Not everyone gets responses. 2. Not everyone feels like responding to every issue. 3. These forums are innundated with threads, and many get pushed far down the queue of pages (where very few people to read threads) in a matter of hours. 4. You could have solved your issue by now just by reading the Leopard tutorials. 5. I just happened to be in a helpful mood this afternoon. There are many tutorials here and elsewhere on VMWare projects. I myself have had very limited experience with it (mostly because I HATE IT!). Many guides dedicated to Leopard itself can also be applied to installing onto a VMWare virtual disk. Your reboot loop (aka infinite reboot, infinite restart) problem exists on physical OSx86 builds as well. It's most commonly caused by an incompatible kernel. We need to know your exact configuration before we can isolate the problem. In the meantime, however, you'll have to flag -v -f at the boot prompt every time you restart onto a new installation. -v : verbose / boot logging mode -f : rebuilds the kext (kernel extension) cache so that it re-reads every bundle. The log will show you where it hangs and/or restarts. My guess is that it will briefly state "Starting OSx86" but then reboot itself. Have you tried different kernels? Is your CPU SSE2 / SSE3 -capable? Is it multi-core? If it is, try using the cpuis=1 boot flag. ** Yes, the syntax is correct. cpuis=1 is litterally "cpu is equal to one". Adding EFIv9 bootloader should not be necessary unless you're getting "HFS+ partition error" or "cannot find com.apple.boot.plist" messages. You can always install Chameleon 1.012 from within a successful Leopard boot later on, and then use EFI strings for hardware emulation. What version of Windows are you using, and have you tried shrinking your partition so you can create a segment on which to install an actual OSx86 build instead of using VMWare? Laters. Good luck. ps. He probably means you can't run OSx86 in VMWare. Leopard itself can run in VMWare. So toss out your iAtkos ISO and buy Leopard pps. It IS possible to install an OSx86 public release build in VMWare, and there are guides for them as well, but as far as I've read, it's a hell of a hassle. You might as well free up a partition or buy an external drive and work from there. ppps. "Hi, I'm a PC, but I got tired of crashing, so I installed OSX86.. hahahaha.." Best sig line I have ever read in these forums. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147786-reboot-loop/#findComment-1054510 Share on other sites
