Ok dont kill me.

Ive been watching this thread and many others and have choosen this one to be my new OSx86 home.

I understand PC and Mac having both in my home now.

I only have a few (possibly dumb) questions left before I buy some parts to build my OSx86 box (listed here on another topic)

After i get it all running and working I understand

I have no apple support and will have to run x86 varients of the operating system to keep functional.

Most out of the box applications will work straight away on the x86 box.

What about just any old app I download off the net intended for a Macintosh box. Will it work or will they all need a bit of x86 injected into the to work.

Chris

in my experiences, everything works fine, just as if i were using a real mac. Whenever u want to doownload and install drivers say for a printer, just go to the manufacturers website and install OS X drivers. No need to edit them. This is not the case for drivers of things which are components, not peripherals (such as graphics cards or activating all cores on a multicore processor). In terms of applications, so long as you have proper GFX card drivers, most, if not all programs will for fine. Without them, some wont work at all or atleast very slowly.

The only real thing that needs to be "OSx86 injected" are the updates. this only applies for OS updates (ie from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6). for these youll have to follow guides on the web or download a modified update file. Other updates work fine though (ie for programs u have installed like quicktime or iwork.)

Yes you have no Apple support but you have this forum, which isnt too shabby :)
