MacNeuro
Hello there! I'm an italian user (I've introduced myself in the Italian Section) and I hope (that this is the right section for this problem, first of all) you can help me. I like QuickTime and I want use it as default video player (for files like DivX, and all that stuff that run on Windows Media Player). The problem is this: I've installed the official DIvX codec and also the K Lite codec pack on Vista but when I try to watch it, the program show me strange things... like a black video and a bad audio, or nothing directly. Then, I've watched on Apple site that recommends the installation of the codecs but the result is always the same.... Can you help me? Thanks in advance. PS: forgive me for my english... Assuming you are trying to run things on a Hackintosh installation, try installing Perian 1.1.3 or just Google Quicktime codecs on very popular torrent sites like m*nova.org or the pirateb*, or lastly a demon*. for perian, if you are using iDeneb or BlackCH's XxX copy of 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 or something, Perian is installed by default. You only need to go in System Preferences > Perian > and click on the "Install Perian" button. this without the codec pack should get major types working. but a sure shot fix is the Quicktime codec pack (about 13-14 MB) or the best of all VLC player. Just due to privacy, and rules & regulation i haven't given you the full links. but you should be good enough with simple searches on Google. You will get working packs that will get everything working. Lastly, if you need a one shot solution but are willing to give up Quicktime, then VLC 0.9.8.a is the best suited application for everything in audio n video. However, if your problem is regarding playback on Vista, forget Quicktime for Windows and UNINSTALL DIVX player as well as Klite. Simply download and (reinstall) use the most recent version of Klite media codec pack. Last I downloaded was Klite media pack 4.4.5; Maybe a newer version is out. Again the said pack is available for free download from its main site. And, also torrents on before said torrent sites. Hope you know how to go about using torrents. NOTE: if you also want to playback Realplayer file types, the Klite version pack after 4.0. have discontinued the freeware Realplayer Alternative decoder. So to have Media Player Classic playback real media files just (separately) download RealPlayer Alternative and you have 98% things fixed. the 2% are for strange file types that require dedicated players or professional software packages. Lastly, feel free to contact again in case your problem still doesn't get solved. Best of luck, Sono un grande momento, un amico, Freaky Chokra PS: N your English is really fine. MacNeuro
uh, Chokra, thanks for the tips but, as I've written, I'm trying to do this on Windows Vista... I haven't assembled my Hackintosh, yet. But your answer is surely interesting. If it doesn't fix even after that, then contact me. I've had it all working coz i use Vista, 64-bit, purely for gaming. no productivity there... iHack suffices me more than required. Freaky Chokra
I guess I have no chioce.... I'll use another program (but I hope that somebody post here saying "Hey, you can do it!") Just out of curiosity? Why in the world do you want to use QuickTime? It is, without any doubts, good but then in any version of Windows, there isn't much codec support for it. Instead freeware players like the Klite n VLC are available... In fact, I've just found out about someone making a KLite MPC type player for MacOS X also... that should get one more familiar with iHack musings. But, VLC on macintosh is way better than anything out there. Till next time. Hope you have it working. -Freaky Chokra Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147662-how-to-watch-all-videos-on-quicktime/#findComment-1046212 Share on other sites
