vmitchell85
I have looked and looked and read and read and READ but I can't find any information on my issue. However I may not be doing everything correctly so feel free to correct this newbie! I have a custom built PC with a Asus P5Q Pro Motherboard. I also have a retail copy of Leopard. I have downloaded Boot 132 and burned it to CD, booted the CD, switched discs at the "boot:" prompt. Hitting enter a few times the disc seems to start booting and gets to the Gray screen with the apple logo but does not go anywhere from there. Now I have read many things about AHCI and I have enabled it and there has been no change. I am currently trying to clear out a drive to format it on my Macbook Pro with a GUID partition and install OSX from my Macbook Pro and then attempting to boot from the Boot 132 Loader. I am not very optimistic if this will work at all, so I am asking for any help whatsoever. If I just need to abandon the Retail install and follow the guide in this (http://www.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/index.php/t137296.html) forum I can do that. My goal is to not flash my BIOS and to install from the Retail DVD. Once again I want to thank you for any assistance provided and welcome ALL criticism and I also don't mind being a guinea pig either and I am willing to post my whole process and if successful writing a guide for people to follow. Thanks Again! - Vince Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147340-newbie-problems-p5q-pro/ Share on other sites
vme
I just did this yesterday and used the generic.iso with modified kext files for the boot-132 iso. I booted up off the CD, then swapped the CD with a retail version of the DVD. Then hit enter '9f' to boot off the DVD drive. Then i use the -v option when booting to help give me an idea if something goes wrong. You might want to start with the -v option. Also, try the other boot disk. HTH. I have tried both the generic ISO and the modified ISO with no luck... However I have just hit enter until it asked to boot from the DVD, I didn't know '9f' boots off the DVD drive. Thanks, I'll give it another shot... - Vince Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147340-newbie-problems-p5q-pro/#findComment-1043778 Share on other sites
vmitchell85
So at this point I have formatted my Sata drive with a Mac OS Extended Partition, installed Leopard from the retail DVD via my macbook pro and reinstalled the drive into my PC, I booted to the Generic ISO and the Modified ISO and neither gets the OS to boot, I'm still stuck at the gray screen with the apple... I figure my next option is to make a custom initrd.img file ... I also just found a forum that might help... http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=144020 will post my findings...
