First off, I'm not asking about specific hardware here. I am simply trying to see if I have digested what I have read before I jump in and shoot my self in the foot, kill my cat or blow up something. :):D

Congrats to all the great people and all their contributions.

Now to the down and fun stuff.

Here is what I believe I have managed to put together. Please feel free to correct me if I am completely off base.

Goals:

- To have a vanilla install on a partition so that I can use the Software Update functions.

- Use PC-EFIv9/Chameleon (apparently they are the same thing) for my boot loader.

- Create a /Extra folder to put all the kexts needed for my hardware in so I don't taint my vanilla install.

My steps as to proceed so far:

1 - Read

2 - I have installed a downloadable release (currently iPC 10.5.6) on a small 25G partition to use as a utility/repair/save my butt area.

3 - Boot into my "utility" area.

4 - Create a new partition (100G) to perform a vanilla install on as outlined here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=86167

5 - Create a /Extras/Extensions folder and copy the kexts I need into it.

6 - Correct the permissions on my Extensions.

7 - Generate an Extensions.mkext.

8 - Hide my Extensions directory.

9 - Reboot into my new install.

Again, I'm sure I'll have many more questions. Just curious as to if what I've read has sinked in and I am understanding this correct.

Does anyone have any comments?

Thanks....
