360freak
I think we should add in a subforum specifically for FAQ's. Members can write and add to FAQ's for different subjects. i.e. OS X on netbooks and the MSI Wind, OS X on AMD, Webcams, Duel booting etc. Just a thought. FAQ's are usually the first place I look when I'm new to something. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146467-insanelyfaq/ Share on other sites
SilverZero
I don't know what the general opinion on "giving out" answers is - I feel like sometimes the community is relatively closed to noobs - but I think this would be great. People talk about netkas' EFI solution, and boot-132, and DSDT patches, but it's quite difficult to find a comprehensive explanation of what these things actually are, even on the authors' respective homepages. At least when I had no idea how GRUB worked, I could find detailed guides with proper background information out there. I know the hand-holding has to stop at some point, but there are some things that deserve a proper FAQ entry, especially because the developers put a lot of work into piecing it together. It would make their work more accessible to more people. In short, I'm all for the InsanelyFAQ. Bit Shoveler
As a n00b still coming up to speed on OSX86, I for one would appreciate an InsanelyFAQ. I'd even contribute, once I had something to contribute, of course. SilverZero
By the way, ~pcwiz wrote a good FAQ a while back. It covers some good "big" topics. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=89659 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146467-insanelyfaq/#findComment-1041040 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
Also Shay's blog is excellently written, has pictures and covers pretty much everything. http://apple2pc.blogspot.com/ Scroll down and keep an eye on the pane to the right, until you get to a list of topics. Oh joy. I found so much useful info over there. You can easily search the site like this (type into google) site:http://apple2pc.blogspot.com/ boot flags <--- or whatever you want to search for. Superhai
In the top right corner there is a link which says OSx86 project, that is a wiki and if you have time to update it you are free to do it. This has always been here, but like everything else most noobs don't want to read. This has always been here, but like everything else most noobs don't want to read. That was unnecessarily judgmental. When I was a noob I read everything I could on the wiki. It didn't help me much, because all the people who know the answers hang out on the forum instead of writing wiki entries. Not all noobs are clueless about forum etiquette. But I think you're probably right, if people are interested in writing a FAQ, they might as well put that effort into updating the existing wiki, especially because it's so weak right now.
