Hey, all,

I have the above mentioned motherboard, and have gotten it up and working without too much of a problem. The only issue that remains is that my wireless card (RTL8185) has no driver, so is essnetially useless.

Then I had the idea of using my on board ethernet (nForce, I believe) with a wireless access point. Will this work? Does the nForce ethernet work with Hackintosh, and will the wireless access point cause any problems, or will the machine just think it's connected to the standard ethernet?

This would just save me the hassle of trying to get a wireless access card which actually worked 100% with my OSX install!

Thanks, in advance, for any advice!

Did you try the ones on Realtek's website? If not, give this page a look. There's 2 versions of the driver; one for 10.3, the other for 10.4; be sure to get the one for 10.4, as 10.3 is probably the PPC version, while 10.4 is the x86 version.

Their OSX version of the 8187B works like a dream for me, so hopefully the 8185 will do the trick.

I've been looking for drivers for ages, so was really excited when you posted this link. I haven't tried 10.3 yet, but I tried 10.4 last night, and assuming it's just a case of running the installer, restarting and then the network card should appear in the Network browser in "Settings", it didn't work... :police:

Do I need to do anything else to get these drivers to work?

If not, I'll try 10.3, but other than that (and back to my original question), would a wireless access point connected to my ethernet do the trick?

Cheers! :dev:

Check out my Pre-Series 7 nForce + Intel thread here......see post #1 for eno's nForceLAN.kext......would not the onboard LAN work so long as it reads a IP address from the wireless access point via the connecting Ethernet cable? :(

Hey, All,

So after further research, it seems the RTL8185 drivers on Realtek's website are actually for the PPC, and as such are incompatible with the Intel based systems...

So moving swiftly on - Verdant - I didn't really understand your post? Are you saying I can follow my original plan about hooking up a Wireless Access Point to the onboard ethernet by using the drivers you mention in the thread you refer to?

If this isn't a possibility, can anyone suggest a decent wireless card that will work for me with both OSx85 (iATKOS 10.5.5) and Windows XP SP3?

Cheers,

What I had in mind was the following scenario.......if you did not want to buy a wireless PCI card for the PC
