I burned an image of iPC_Osx86_10.5.6 and plugged in a good and known working dvd burner externally to the Eee Box (B202 model) with the 82945GM (thats what the install disc identifies it as when at the Boot: prompt, but I read around to find that it's the 945GSE) chipset, GMA950 Video, etc..

-I took out my 80gig windows vista drive out and installed a fresh 100gb blank drive. They're so easy to swap in this machine I decided that's how I'm going to do my dual boot.

-Updated my bios to the latest that enables intel SpeedStep SSE3

-The DVD booted great when I put the "cpus=1" tag at the boot: prompt.

-I used disk utility to format in 1 Partition with a dos master boot record. hfs journaled.

-Install, accept, chose destination drive, clicked options...

-I deselected everything and just installed the iPC default installation. I did select the cpus=1 mod though.

-Installed great, rebooted it self.

-Removed the dvd, booted from the hard drive, Apple logo... spinning... ..

spinning. Still spinning. It doesn't pan, nor does it read the hard drive AT ALL. The light never blinks.

-I tried booting in -x -v etc, I couldn't find an obvious error that is reported.

-Went back to installer and was surprised to see that on the iPC disk there was compatible drivers for network, wireless card, video, and sound. So I checked those drivers and I selected a kernel that says in the description that it supports SSE3 and Speedstep technology.

Restarted.

Same thing, just spins. and spins, never anything more.

As soon as the Apple Logo boot loader appears, the hard drive activity light does not blink once.

What could I be doing wrong? I've now tried reinstalling (formating every time) with all of the possible kernels to choose from I think, I've reinstalled so many times now I'm not even sure of what I tried anymore.

Gah, any support would be appreciated. I'm attempting to get OS/x on this Eee as a media center for a car.

Thanks guys,

you're great.

I do have a macbook pro running 10.5.6 right with me if that opens up any possibilities.

What processor are you running? If it's capable of running a vanilla(read: apple's) kernel, then use that; otherwise use Voodoo.

For the GMA950, there's a 950 kext under the 'chipset' list in the install; make sure you pick as few things as you can. The idea here is that less=more (but you need to support your hardware, of course). I believe there's only one kext for the 950 on that distro anyway, but if there's more than one, just choose one (same goes for anything there's 'more than one' of).

You're increadibly vague on your hardware, though, so it's kinda hard to point you in a direction yet. You seem to be doing the right methods of "see if this works like this", so you should be learning some great stuff simply by trial and error. If you still have your windows running, boot it, and goto your control panel -> system -> device manager and check out your exact hardware. Make a list of this so you can make sure you cover everything. The most important things to find out are:

Your processor: Use a program like CPU-Z and see what all it supports. SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, etc.

Your chipset: iCHX is very common. nForce & some others are supposed to be a {censored}, but whatever :D

Your IDE bus: If it's JMicron, you probaby need to check off the JMicron fix.

Your GFX card: the GMA 950, in this case.

On a side note (to anyone who may be 'advanced' in the osx86 department), I think it may be a good idea to compile a web script to help anybody new wanting to try to install osx86 pick which kexts they need. IE: a user finds out their hardware, and selects it from pop-down menus (or whatever), and based on the hardware, the script would tell them which kexts have been deemed most successful, etc. Probably wouldn't be terribly hard to do; half the people here seem to have all kinds of kexts memorized :)

Wow thanks for the quick response.

Yeah I'm trying whatever it takes that I've got with me right now to get this thing to boot.

Yes the GMA950 driver is in the iPC release under Drivers>Video along with the exact drivers under Audio, the motherboards NIC, and sound card have exact compatible drivers for this system too.

I have a zip file with all of the kexts just in case I have any missing drivers for the audio, video, network, and wireless network. I read that on this EEE Box that someone had installed Kalyway 10.5.2 release without selecting any options on installation and worked perfect. I'm wondering if I should get kalyway or try to get this 10.5.6 iPC installation working.

processor: MMX SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3

chipset:intel i945GME

IDE bus:uh, i don't have a clue.

GFX card: GMA 950

Burned with no mods.

Booted in the Eee Box

Boot: cpus=1

Enter.

loads in verbose

2 seconds later im at the following lines at the bottom of the screen,
