Hi all. Forgive me as I am new to this. I have been reading up but I'm still very confused about all of this. Here is the deal: I am a system builder and heve been using Vista/Ubuntu forever. I have a mid-end AMD based computer and FRIED my processor! Instead of getting a new AMD processor, I am thinking about getting this board: DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2RB and this processor: Core 2 Duo E8400. I want to keep the rest of my existing hardware. (upgrading RAM and possibly video later)

What I have:

Dual MSI 8600GTS cards in SLI (I realize I will not be able to use SLI but only one card is fine) NX8600GTS-T2D256E-OC

4 GB RAM ADQVE1A16K

2 Western digital 36GB raptors (I would like to use in RAID but no big if not)

1 160GB Seagate SATA (actually came out of an old G4)

1 Lite-on generic DVD Burner on IDE

Logitech S-510 Wireless KB and mouse (on one USB port)

I also want to be able to connect to my monitor with DVI at 1680 x 1050 resolution.

I suppose I would like to use vanilla kernal and EFI and I'm quite sure this hardware will support that.

So here are my questions:

1: What is the best way to install? Should I start with 10.5.2 and upgrade from there or start out at 10.5.6?

2: Kalyway? Leo4all? Others? Which install method would be the most straight-forward?

3: What are the advantages/disadvantages of using vanilla kernel and EFI? Will I be able to dual-boot to vista with EFI? How to set up EFI?

4: Will i need to patch audio? LAN? USB? Will 5.1 surround analog work?

5: Best way to patch/install Video drivers? Full Resolution/Hardware acceleration?

6: Will my IDE CD-ROM drive work?

7: Any good, thorough install guides? Patch guides?

8: Anyone have any good/bad experience with any of this hardware?

9: Any useful information that I might need to know.

Thanks to everyone for your help!
