yes, you can shrink you leo partition and create another for windows without losing information, just be aware that you can only shrink but not "grow" HFS+ file systems, or at least i did not found a way to do this without reformatting.

I highly recommend using gparted live cd to do this, its about 100mb and i never had a problem with it except that i cannot grow HFS+.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I already have g-parted. Do I reboot my hackintosh with the G-parted in the dvd drive? And could you please walk me through the steps needed to install Xp without losing my leopard info. It took me q full weekend to get leopeard running. Dont wanna struggle again.

you need to boot on you cd, you can do this putting your cd in the drive and then restart or whatever, on gparted, you click resize/move then use the slider to set the size of your leo partition then click resize/move. the remaining space will show up as 'unallocated', right click on it and select new, select your file system for the new partition, you select wathever you want, I recommend selecting NTFS, it makes easier and a little faster installing windows later, but its not important by now, you can erase your partition and format it using ntfs later using windows installer, then click +ADD. At this point, nothing has been altered to your hard drive, its just like a task list to be performed later, so if you want to stop, everything will stay the same, to apply your modifictions, click apply, it will take a while, then reboot and install XP to your new partition, then to boot OSX again, boot into your gparted live and right click on your leo partition, select 'manage flags' and check boot, click close and restart, you should have a dual boot system now. on the chameleon bootloader just do as you do to put a boot flag like -f -v, etc, and you should see your windows partition, navigate with the arrow keys an press enter to boot windows.

∗its not difficult, just take care, and remember that you cannot "grow" HFS+ file systems.

∗I recommend you booting into OSX again before installing XP just to check if everything is ok with your leo install, do a backup 'just in case'.

∗I did this procedure on my laptop a few times and it worked perfectly with both iAtkos and Ideneb, using iAtkos with PCEFI v9 currently.

∗If you restart using your leo as a boot partition and it wont work, dont panic, your data is still there, you only need to find a way to access it, there are plenty of tutorials here at insanelymac.com that can help you doing this...

edit:

after i wrote this all i realized that its already much better explained and organized here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=143072

Thank-you for the detailed reply. I tried G-parted live but was unable to change the size of the parition. I ended up installing Vmware fusion 2.0 and installed xp32. But only problem is when I try to record I have really bad latency. Is this something that is normal?
