Galvin
Ok, I know, this should be a really stupid question and it should have a really simple answer, but I thought I should ask just in case. I know that the Atheros AR5006X card works and would fit in my laptop, so I'm not worried about that. I thought of this question as I, in a quite bored/curious state, took off the casing of my laptop to get a look at the hardware and I noticed that my Intell Pro/WIRELESS 3945abg used a MINIPCIE (mini pci express incase you don't know) connection. I also found out from random internet research that the latest Apple Airport Extreme (Model #: BCM94321MC) cards use a MINIPCIE interface as well. My heart jumped a bit, thinking that I may actually be able to get a wireless card that doesn't need any drivers, that just natively works with "mac" and so, no more problems. I am currently trying to figure out if it can physically fit into my laptop (I have an Acer 5630-6288) and if it will I will definately get it and exchange it for my current wireless card. Any help with this would be most appreciated. ~Galvin [EDIT] OOPS! Changed "Apple Airport Extreme" to "Apple Airport Extreme (Model #: BCM94321MC)" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145745-do-apple-airport-cards-bcm94321mc-work-with-osx86/ Share on other sites
Sergeant Brain
Absolutely! I just swapped one out in my Sony Vaio because I could not find ANY drivers for an Intel 5100! I took the laptop apart and was pleased to find a mini pci-e slot and since I don't use wifi on my Mac mini, I swapped cards. Booted it back up and it worked on the fly! I would assume any laptop with a pci-e slot would work with OSX86 if you put the BCM94321MC Airport card in instead of what it has IF there is room for it. This card was twice as long as the Intel 5100 so I wasn't able to screw it down, I just put the motherboard back in place and it holds it down that way. BCM94321MC Airport card, BuyItNow on ebay (there are several available). AR5bXB6 Mac mini Airport card (I know this one works for a fact). I know the BCM94321MC and the AR5bXB6 Mac mini Airport card are slightly different, but they should both work! **EDIT** This thread talks about some BIOS issues... mine worked with no problem however. Also, if anyone is looking for a OOB DESKTOP wireless card, I got the Sonnet Aria Extreme PCI card and it worked right off the bat! I know it's a little expensive but it needs NO DRIVERS! Rick Rehorst
Just plugged it in in my ibm t60p, and it works. No drivers needed. I have A dell D530 and after a struggle I managed to install iDeneb 1.6 with 10.5.8 graphic worked with de X3100 driver and I managed to get the Sound going as well The LAN is working now as wel but I learned that the intel 4965 or BCM5755M was probably not going to work. Now I bought a Sonnet Aria Extreme N Mini PCI-e and it fitted without problems DPCI says: 168c:0024 Atheros communications AR5418 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless PCI express Adapter Nevertheless it's not working ! I replaced AppleAirPort.kext I tried another 80211Family.kext but no result. Any ideas on this case?
