Danneman
Ive been running Kalway 10.5.5 successfully for a while now. Its a dual-boot system with xp. Today I connected my new ipod touch to the computer, and updated to iTunes 8. When I shut down the computer an option to either just shut down mac os, or install updates and then shut down. I chose to just shut down. Now I cant get the computer to boot into mac os anymore. I reach the point where I shall choose os (xp or mac), and when choosing mac the system just reboots. An endless loop. Any ideas? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145572-kalway-1055-wont-boot/ Share on other sites

The system just keeps restarting. Does the bootloader startup and then reboot or does it instantly reboot. when you select OSX? Try booting your install disk. Go to Disk Utility and right-click the partition you installed OSX on and select Information. Write down both the Disk Identifier (should look something like "disk0s2") and also the Universal Unique Identifier or UUID (Should look something like this "6F5A3EA4-EDEF-3AD4-96A5-3421A18DEE3F") Now reboot with the disk in the drive and it should say press any key to boot from the disk. Let the countdown run out and you should be presented with a prompt. Try this first (replace disk0s2 with the one for your drive): rd=disk0s2 -v If that doesn't work then type this ridiculous long number in like this (replacing the UUID with yours): boot-uuid=6F5A3EA4-EDEF-3AD4-96A5-3421A18DEE3F -v If you were able to boot into OSX without any issues then you can reinstall your bootloader and you should be fine. Though this may force you to do the same with your windows install. I dual boot by selecting my windows xp drive from the BIOS as I never use windows anymore. If your machine starts to load but then hangs somewhere then the updates probably did manage to install. Danneman
Awesome, I did get into my mac again! But how do I reinstall my bootloader? Do you mean the file that is located on my win xp-partition (in my case called "tboot") and lets me dual-boot? Do you mean the file that is located on my win xp-partition (in my case called "tboot") and lets me dual-boot? As I mentioned before I dont use a bootloader to dual boot I select it in the BIOS. I use Chameleon bootloader which you can get from here hxxp://chameleon.osx86.hu/ (replace xx with tt) Id read up on it first but the installer is pretty straight forward. Danneman
Ok, Ill try Chameleon instead, bc Im tired of tboot screwing things up. I just copied a new fresh tboot to my c-partition in win xp (which is where it should be), and it still wont boot correctly. A little sidenote: Ive got 3 partitions (winxp, mac os, and another mac-partition), but the mac os-partition has id disk0s6. Just seems strange that the id is such a high a number? Anyway, thanks a lot for helping out and educating me on some of the pit-falls and workings of hackintosh - much appreciated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145572-kalway-1055-wont-boot/#findComment-1033028 Share on other sites
