~J~
All iso's but one (just restarts) gives me a "installer failed, please restart error" is there someone who knows the trick around this? J.dot
How new is your computer? by the looks of your specs, if isn't, but if it is, these old iso's (specifically, tiger) won't support the new computer. I usually get the install fail, please restart error when I bun I bad cd. Trying buring it very slowly (4x or 2x) with a high quality program such as IMGBurn (For Win). (Also, in the past, light-scribe discs do not work for me and have caused me this problem.) Other than that, we need more info to help diagnose the problem better. As far as i know, Kalyway is best for hardware, then JaS, iAtkos, and then iDeneb. Again, If your computer is around 1 and a half years old or less, you probably better off getting Leopard. What specs are you seeing that I'm not? I don't see any specs. The only specs I see are: P4 Northwood, 512m of ram (probably shared with the video) and a 40g hard drive. The rest is a bunch of guesses, So you guessed incorrectly, and want what exactly, different guesses? MAKE A HARDWARE LIST! Just by looking at P4, 512mb, and 40gb HD says right there that it is probably older than 1.5 years... What I meant by diagnose the problem better, ~J~, is that more specs (chipset, motherboard, a certain cd name, and etc. Though now looking over it I do believe that that is a bad cd burn. Sorry about that, Reveeen! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145365-tiger-install-problem/#findComment-1042714 Share on other sites
Reveeen
Here is a guess: Very likely it has an ATI chipset, if so the secondary IDE channel (where the CD/DVD is hooked to) does a disappearing act (which can look like a "bad burn") just after install starts. THERE IS NO "FIX". You can try an external USB CD/DVD drive for your install, but to the system your internal drive remains dead. I have a desktop here with a ATI chipset, and it pi55es me off no end, but I can put both a hard drive and a DVD drive on my primary IDE, you do not have that option. Once i get it back I will post more. It DOES have an ATI graphics card, and from what I know, Its around 4-5years old, I have tried kallyway, ideneb, and leo4all with a few others that i cant remember. For this type of old laptop Is there anything I can due to have it installed to the internal HD? -This is the same type of laptop I am using with the exception of the trackpad being different.
