Well, I frequently find the need to use a headset, mainly so I do not disturb others around me at night. And, this was a problem with using Mac OS X, as my hackintosh works flawlessly with the exceptions: no functional headphone/mic ports.

Discouraged, I ditched my old headsets, which some had a short in the wire, or just some really $5 cheapos anyways...

So, I set out to find a headset that interfaced through USB.

Found the Logitech Premium USB Headset 350, and bought it. Whooo some pretty girls were there while I was shopping..oh, anyways, I bought the headset and came back to the Hackintosh and plugged it up in the front USB panel. Did not work, why was I not surprised.. Oh, wait, I'm still new to Mac haha.

Go to your sound preferences and set your output to Logitech USB Headset

A quick test proved that the desktop speakers were off, and the headset was on.

Switched over to the Input tab, and yea, fully functional mic!

Well, not all may have this problem, or need for a headset, but i took the easy route out I guess you could say. But, hey, in the end, it was pretty painless and fully function.

***On a side note.... damn these things get loud! I really can not tolerate any more than 5 or 6 out of the 16 blocks filled on the volume control (and I do listen to loud music)
