Can't boot DVD - No Bios Option... Any Workaround? Floppies? (Compaq Presario 1501CL)

Hi!

I have a compaq presario 1501CL notebook and would like to install tiger (or Leopard but I only have a SSE 2 P4 so I don't think that will happen). The one problem is that the BIOS IS TERRIBLE. It does not even give the option to boot from a cd drive. The only way I managed to install windows was to use the boot from floppy method first. So I am wondering if it would be possible to do the same here or do something else to get the computer to boot from the osx86 dvd. THANKS!!!

Reading through the Compaq website, specifically about recovering your laptop from the Compaq restore CD, it seems your system is set up to auto boot any bootable media placed in the optical drive. Make sure you are placing a self booting CD/DVD in the optical drive.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, it seems that the only disc it will boot is the disc that came with the laptop. No other bootable media is booted. I tried different disks and none of them were read. I also tried to plug in an external disc drive and again nothing. Floppies that boot a disk would be the best option here. That was the only way I managed to reinstall windows once onto it by using floppies to start the installation and then it continued from the disc. Is there something like this for Tiger? Or just a plain floppy that will boot a cd? I can't think of anything else.

Thanks
