conradlyn
hey guys, i got a annoying problem for the dual boot solution for mac(using "leo4allv3 final") and windows xp. i just can't did it. i use the special installation method since i don't have a DVD drive(not to say DVD burning). I have two partitions ready for Win and mac, C for Win and the one after C (it is D before leo is installed)for leo. both formatted into fat32. 1. i downloaded a ghost image which is from a 10G source partition, and write it into my C partition. and then mark this partition active. then restart. 2. now i am able to boot into this leo. without installing any drivers, i just navigated to the leo4allv3 iso file and mounted it. using "go" of the finder get into this iso to find the installer, the route is: /volumes/Leo4allV3/system/installation/packages/osinstall.mpkg. then double click this installer to start the installation. 3. it is easy and quick an successful. after the installation, i restart the computer again. the boot menu shows that my newly installed leo is there. i chose this leo, then type -v for the option. but it didn't work, just some sentences quickly flashed away then back to the boot menu. also tried with -x, or -s, nothing helped. 4. then i boot into the leo from ghost image. copy these two files "boot" and "mach_kernal.voodoo" into my newly installed leo partition. then it works, i can boot into this new leo.then i installed the drivers, it all worked perfect. 5. i boot with a windows xp installation disk with winpe inside. first boot into winpe, then formatted the first leo into ntfs, then installed windows xp into it. it's all ok untill now. 6. restart, then i can only boot into windows xp. first i thought it should be the active partition thing. then i boot into winpe, use partition manager to change the mac partition active. then restart again. but it didn't work, saying "erroe loading operating system, please insert the disk" and something like that. finally, i just can guess that it was the problem of the boot file thing, "MBR" is it? i can only imagine that the mbr message was written by the ghost image when it was written into my first partition. although i install the new leo from this existing mac, the booting message didn't change. and then when i formatted the first partition and installed with windows xp. the boot thing was totally gone for leo, then just windows xp there. i also tried tboot when i can only boot into windows. it didn't work, when i chose tboot to boot leo, it popped up saying "no hfs partition found". i am really tired and desperated now after many tries using the same way trying to find out what the problem is there. but with nothing solved. can anyone give me some advise? or is it the wrong way to install leo like this? jayzon915
I don't know if this will help or not... but it sounds like your mbr isn't showing the correct path to your Leo partition.... I don't have much experience with a Mac bootloader but when you installed XP it erased the Mac bootloader. XP doesn't play very nice with other operating systems. Generally, it's a good idea to have XP installed first. I personally use Acronis OS Selector and it automatically scans your hard drives for different operating systems. You might want to give it a try. conradlyn
thanks jay... i gave up trying to make it happen. i use another way to install leo from hard disk into my second partition. it was quite successful, only thing not so perfect is that i have to boot into leo with ACHI for my seagate sata2 hard drive, in this way i can't boot into windows xp. whenever i want to use windows, i just have to change ACHI back to Native IDE in bios, but it's much better now...
