unknown001
So I obtained a copy of OSx86 (Tiger 10.4.8). Early last year I installed it into Fujitsu T3010D laptop and had some graphic driver issues. Easy corrected graphics by editing the "Graphics Mode"= line during boot up. This laptop worked with Tiger pretty good. Recently I wanted to install Tiger into my PC here are the stats: Intel 478 P4 2.6 GHz (processor) Abit IC7 Max3 (mainboard) 2 dual channel 1Gig patriot pc3200 (memory) Winfast A350 FX5900 ultra 256MB (graphic) WD 80gig SATA II (hard drive) During installation I had the same issue on the PC with graphics driver. It did show the apple gray boot screen with the apple and circular activity indicator, then "no video", but you can hear sound . Tried everything and could not get the Tiger to boot properly. Every time I boot up I could see the apple gray screen, then no video. So I let the PC run while I was using a XP machine to research for a solution on insanelymac. After 30mins of running Tiger with no graphics I heard a "pop" from the PC and smell burning components. NO smoke but I could smell something burning. Tracked it down to the computer running Tiger. And imediately truned the powersupply off. After some inspection I discovered my video card (Winfast A350 FX5900 was dead), I could smell the burns on the card. It is possible that Tiger was using the wrong driver to run the video card causing it to break. After 1 dead video card I made another installation attemp using a different video card this time (Asylum FX5600 256MB). Did an installation of Tiger from a clean hard drive. Was able to boot with no video issues. I ran Tiger on for 30min, making some perferance chances in Tiger. Then I rebooted and the computer, it posted half way and froze. I was able to see CPU information, memory test at post, and harddrive information. It would not let me into bios, froze rite at "press delete to enter bios." Press "Alt F2" to awardflash. Neither "delete" or "Alt F2" works. Possible bios corruption. Yes I've tried everything from reseting my bios, including taking battery from mainboard and unpluging power. If I could get to "Alt F2" I could reflash my bios, but it does freezes there. Yes I am aware Mac OSx86 is kinda in experimental stages. Reveeen
OSx86 did not kill your computer, you did. There is a reason Abit is no longer in business, and this is it, your computer would have failed running ANY operating system. unknown001
Last I check abit is still making computer equiptment. They have a good i7 board coming out. The board I have is one of the best 478 board out there( ic7 max 3). It is a discontinued board, of course most 478 boards are discontinued. But if you do a search for a used ic7-max board you will know that it is still expensive. I ran XP pro for 5 years without any problem. It is possible that my mainboard mite have been damage when the video card was burn. And it took a bit longer foe it to fail.
