siefer
Hi, I have a bit of a problem here. I backed up all of my files from XP using Mac Drive onto an external hard drive and I cant install Mac Drive on my copy of Windows 7. But what I can do is connect it to another XP computer on the network and then access the XP computer through the network. So my question is, If said XP computer has multiple accounts on it, what would be the credentials I would use to connect to it? (i.e when I double click on it in the network pane it asks for a Username and Password, then under that it says (Domain:DEFAULT)) Regards, Siefer Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/144100-question-about-networking-in-windows/ Share on other sites

french squared
I always use the same username and password on all my machines just for this reason. You need to keep trying you will get in. It is just a matter of figuring out the correct username and password. Try just the user name and password of the old machine, no @ Have tried to boot a computer off the old drive? If you completely copied the HD you can take it out of the external device and put it in a computer. You can also use linux to get into the HD. Download Ubuntu live CD Boot into Ubuntu from said CD select rescue system, Ubuntu will then boot on the desktop of Ubuntu you will see the said Harddrive. You can the access the files and move them to another location. But move the files you need not the entire HD again. Hey, I found a fiesty fawn beta cd lying around and i was able to get it to boot into the OS(live cd). It does recognize the mac drive and the windows partition, but the problem is that i do not have to proper permissions to access the desktop folder on my mac drive(where all of my files are) and i can not write to the windows 7 drive. siefer
Your copy of Mac Drive did install, and it works and everything but I suspect its something with my computer that doesn't let the Mac drive show up in the explorer. I can see the disk in Disk Management, and it shows that it's "Online" but still no luck accessing it from windows. Ill try the root user thing right now. french squared
you just cant seem to win. Ubuntu wont let you log in as root without modifying the shadow file. google log in as root in ubuntu since I cant remember exactly how. or download fedora. I know you can get into in windoes file system from Linux. The trick is to get ownership of the files. The easiest way is to be root, but you can also do a chmod or something like that to take ownership. Fedora will let you log in as root.
