Last time I checked the whole Mac on PC thing it seemed like only an Intel processor would do. So, after arguing with a Mac guy as to whether or not a PC can run Mac OS I checked the whole thing out again and saw that some installs support AMD and decided to try it on my Toshiba Satellite.

I used iDeneb v 1.3 10.5.5

If I just start the install without any options it loads the gray screen with the apple and does nothing else. If I do the debug it stops after:

MAC Framework successfully intitialized

using 9830 buffer headers and 4896 cluster IO buffer headers

IOAPIC: Version 0x21 Vectors 0:23

It's an AMD Turion (2.2 ghz x2 I think) 2 gb of ram and a 250gb hdd.

Do you have any details on the motherboard chipset; is it Intel or nForce based?

Motherboard:

Manufacturer-Toshiba

Model-IALAA

Chipset-ATI RS690/RS690M

It is likely that you have a ATI SB600 series Southbridge chipset.......suggest you try iPC OSx86 10.5.6 distro with PPF2 patch...... :thumbsup_anim:

Well, just patched it myself and it still hangs at that same spot in the debug.

Check the pre patch and post patch MD5 check sums......

Unpatched iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3, Public Beta Release.iso file has MD5 checksum 5eb1aaff70d1f5810cd62e9d075d812e.

PPF1 patched iPC OSx86 Leopard 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3, Public Beta Release.iso file (burned to DVD) has MD5 checksum of 0c93dea47a999344a3b4303740f623f9 after patching.

PPF1 patched .iso file patched again with PPF2 has MD5 checksum of patched ISO after PPF2 patching: 0fbdc0ed0bed502e026cca9cf42efa2c.

It has the last checksum you posted. So it's patched properly, and I burned it at 4x (Nero won't give me a 2x or lower option). I don't know what the problem is.

I have a Satellite A215-4767 which I don't see there. Also, most of those Satellites are Intels (if not all) so I don't think that trying to find a similar model would help me.

What specific boot screen error messages do you get when booting the DVD with "-v -x cpus=1 platform=ACPI|86PC -legacy"......?

I don't get any boot errors.

If I run it without the -v it just sits on the white screen with the apple. The circle doesn't even come up.

With -v, it goes through the extensions and all and gets stuck on a the same spot the other dcd got stuck on.

Yes but what happens when you boot the DVD with "-v -x cpus=1 platform=ACPI|86PC -legacy" and what is the actual point at which it freezes?.......post a screen shot of the boot up screen......

it does the same thing when I type that in, maybe I'm typing it wrong but I don't see how.

Check my typing.

Have you or can you set your BIOS to AHCI mode?

Have you or can you set your BIOS to enable ACPI APIC support?

Is your HDD SATA or PATA (IDE)?

Is your DVDRW SATA or PATA (IDE)?

Don't seem to have any options for that in the BIOS.

Hard drive is Sata, not sure about the DVD drive, I'll get back on that one.

The lack of BIOS options is worrying..........

Yea, the BIOS absolutely sucks.

All it has is a Main section with System Date/Time, Quiet Boot, Power On Display, LCD Display Stretch, Total Memory, Bios Version, and Language.

Advanced with legacy usb support, and some lan and wakeup options.

Security where you can set a password.

Others with only alarms and beeps.

And finally a boot system.

It is one of the most plain and disgusting bios I have ever seen lol.

Without being able to configure SATA as Enable or as AHCI mode, you may have problems with OSx86......but check here for OS X 10.5.2......

For OS X 10.4.3 for example these are listed as incompatible....

  • Satellite 1135-s155
  • Satellite M45-S351
  • Satellite M45-s265: Hangs at boot
  • Satellite M35-s359: Hangs at boot .
  • Satellite A215-S4807: Hangs at boot

I found this post here

That seems to be my problem. For right now I'm working on getting a version of Kalyway because Option 1 confuses the heck out of me (And so does option 3, only I don't have a Mac anyway, but a friend does). If Kalyway doesn't work I'll probably give myself some time to think about the other two.
