Hi guys,

I'm trying to install Leopard on my Toshiba SATELLITE PRO M10 LapTop.

Here most important specs:

Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 - Pentium M Banias 1.5 GHz - Intel Centrino - Chipset - i855 -JUST SS2 AVAILABLE

512 MB RAM DDR 266 MHz

NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go - 32 MB

wireless - Intel PRO/Wireless 2100

Well, I've tried many configuration and installation without success.

The system is able to complete installation, but after first reboot it starts to reboot in infinite loop way. It happens with Vanilla Kernel (kalyway).

When I configure installation with other kernel such as "sleep", "speedstep", or other (kalyway + Ideneb) , after the installation is finished, the system reboot and then it tries to load (white screen, apple, and loading symbol moving) for several minute with no changes, or in other case the kernel panic message is shown and I should reboot manually too.....

I configured with and without video and audio drivers. the same for lan drivers.

I defined just kernel type and some patches for SS2 or ICHX. No more.

I performed system boot in -v way.

Now I need your help.

Many thanks.

Luca

What ever settings you used that resulted in the "grey screen, apple logo and loading symbol moving" you should use along with -v to see where you are hanging.

Thank for your reply.

Could you suggest me how set "-v" during the boot from HD (where is installed Leo)?

Because I'm able to set -v just when I'm booting from DVD, pressing F8 and then defining command.

Thanks again.

So basically you have managed to install and after rebooting you get the grey screen and apple logo? Is the DVD still in or have you removed it?

Give it a try without the DVD. If nothing happens then place it back in the drive reboot and when it says "Press any key to boot from the DVD or press F8 to enter boot options" Let the time run out. It should then take you to the Darwin boot loader and give you an additional 5 seconds to press F8 and enter boot options. You will want to enter -v and then see where it stops.

If that does not work then boot the Install disk and when you get into the installer. Select Disk Utility from the menu. You want to click on the partition you installed to and find the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID). You might have to right click and select more info or something. This Number should be fairly long so make sure you have written it down correctly.

Now startup again (With the disk in or out) and press F8 and enter the boot options

-v boot-uuid=YOURUUIDGOESHERE

Many Thanks Lance!

I was able to boot from HD in verbose mode.

So, the reason of hanging up is due to the msg "still waiting to the root device"....

I'm reading this problem troubles many guys in the forum, owners of "obsolete" System like mine......

I've tried every possible solutions, but no success....

Well your laptop is old enough we can rule out a SATA issue as Im about 99% sure the drive is IDE. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode using -x
