I just tried to copy a few large files copying a few large files (dmg images 1-2 Gb in size) from a dvd disc to the hard disc and found out its very very slow, the copy window reports it will take more than 20 minutes in copying about 4,3 Gb of data.

It seems something is slowing down the file copy, because I can hear the dvd drive spinning up to full speed but after 5-10 seconds it spins lower and lower til it copies at about 3/4 Mb/sec.

Is this normal in OS X? Is there any way to speed up this file copy?

Could it be I have some process interfering? I dont know how to list all the running processes apart from the force quit application...

It doesnt seem to be a hardware problem because the dvd drive works at full speed if I make a disc image of the disc instead of copying files. But if I copy the files using the terminal instead of the finder I get the same slow speed and the drive spinning down instead of copying full speed.

Also it doesnt seem to be related to the fact that I'm running a hackintosh (iAtkos 10.5.6) but it someones believes this thread should not be here please move it to the right forum.
