bloodniece
Posting this for those who have the same setup. Installed 10.5.4 from retail disk using OSInstall.mpkg found on Leopard install disk from an existing setup on the same machine (iDeneb 10.5.5) Then installed 10.5.5 combo update. Applied kext packs. Installed Chameleon EFI on vanilla disk. Rebooted, tested for any problems. Rebooted 2 more times to be sure. Then rebooted back into iDeneb 10.5.5 disk Ran 10.5.6 Combo Update, installed kext packs and AppleHDA.kext from working existing extensions folder, reinstalled Chameleon on vanilla disk. Rebooted, 10.5.6 disk/install is working. Firewire works too. Software Update has not broken anything . . . yet.
