ALC888 on new EVGA 730i (GeForce 9300) MB not working

I have a brand spanking new Hackint0sh setup with the following configuration:

  • EVGA 730i GeForce 9300 Motherboard ([link=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188035]NewEgg Product Page[/link])
  • Intel Q6600 Quad-Core processor, underclocked to 1.8GHz (bought the wrong memory :P )
  • 8GB RAM
  • 500GB SATA HD
  • LiteOn SATA DVD Burner
  • Generic FireWire PCI card (1394a)
  • OS X Retail 10.5.6 w/ System Updates working

I have full hardware accelerated graphics using the onboard chipset, gigabit ethernet, working firewire, everything except for audio. I currently have stereo output using a crappy USB dongle that I had lying around, but that's not an ideal solution. I've tried AzaliaAudio.pkg, multiple patched AppleHDA.kext files (by Taruga and others), etc. Also tried using AppleHDAPatcher v1.20 with a dump from Ubuntu; no go. Here's the output from Taruga's AppleHDAPatcher when attempting to patch the AppleHDA.kext from 10.5.6:

		  AppleHDA Patcher - 2006/2007 by Taruga v1.20

* Patching AppleHDA.kext to 0x10ec0888				Done
* Checking AppleHDA for patch Done

00020584	cmpl	$0x10ec0888,%eax
* Checking for SPDIF Out Detected
* Checking for SPDIF In Detected
* Using the following nodes in pathmap

 Back Mic: 9 34 24
Line In  : 8 35 26
Speaker  : 20 12 2
Headphone: 27 38 37
Spdif In : 10 31
Spdif Out: 30 6

* Copying new config to destination Done
* Repairing Permissions								Done
* Deleting Extensions Cache								Done

** Done patching - You can reboot now **

No sound after reboot. I've tried to follow the myriad of tutorials to patch AppleHDA.kext yourself, but, honestly, they lose me very quickly, and I'm usually pretty good at this sort of thing. I've attached the codec dump that I got from the Ubuntu 8.10 live cd in the hopes that someone might be able to help me create a successful patch for this board. Other than the sound issue, this board makes an excellent hackint0sh. Excellent compatiblity (thanks to the new nVidia chipset), expandability, and very low cost (<$700 for the current setup). Any help in getting working audio would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

- Dave

I know this post is wayyyyy late but someone may be able to use the info. I'm excited to actually be able to help for a change instead of begging for answers. :wacko: I'm going to be tedious here because all to often I come across answers that only lead to more questions because of crucial missing steps. I just finished having a big debacle with a friends ALC883 sound driver and found a method that worked perfectly for him, so I took it home and applied it to my ALC888 and got the same wonderful results. This can be accomplished in a few steps.

1. Download Kexthelper B7

2. Download this. Taruga alc88x (Hint: if link breaks google file name Taruga_Leopard_alc88x.zip)

The file contents are as follows. Credit goes to signal64 in another post who linked this file. Obviously thanks to Taruga for the files.

alc882_add0_AppleHDA.zip

alc882_add2_AppleHDA.zip

alc883_add0_AppleHDA.zip

alc883_add2_AppleHDA.zip

alc888_add0_AppleHDA.zip

alc888_add2_AppleHDA.zip

alc885889_add2_AppleHDA.zip

HDAEnabler.kext.zip

3. Delete AppleHDA.kext from /system/library/extensions/

4. Delete extensions.mkext from /system/library/

5. Open kexthelper B7

6. Open the Taruga_leopard_alc88x.zip file which should show up as a folder.

I'm not entirely sure what the difference between the "add0" and "add2" folders are but the file in the "add0" folder is the one that worked for both my friend and myself.

7. Drag HDAEnabler.kext to the kexthelper window. Make sure the path shows up in the kexthelper window, if it doesn't you missed the window try again.

8. Open the folder for your audio chipset. You should see "applehda.kext". Drag it to the kexthelper window as well.

9. Once you confirm that both paths to your files are listed in kexthelper, enter your admin password and proceed with easy install.

10. Once it completes, repair permissions, cross fingers, and restart. (in that order :P )

If it works you will have FULLY functional audio, all ports including the spdif shows up. I haven't had chance to test the spdif but the mic in and audio out works and it even has the nerve to show up under the Audio Built in section in system profiler. This method worked on 10.5.6 in case anyone is curious.

I hope this helps. Good luck

YOU ARE MY PERSONAL HERO!!! Wow... I've been trying to get the audio working on my P43-DS3L for about 9 straight hours and dozens of different approaches, but your method did the trick! I was almost about to give up on this too. Whew! I don't feel so bad about staying up until 4:00 am now...

Thanks again cobaltblue, YOU ROCK!
