iNoob
Well, I bought a new notebook and it came right on my birthday(December 24th), nice Xmas present I gave to myself. I had a look at its specs before buying, it's a Core 2 Duo T5500, Intel GM965 chipset, with 3 GB of RAM and a 120 GB hard drive. Has a very nice webcam too, so it was better than the MacBook But I started to think, "Should I have bought the MacBook instead?" when it panicked during DVD bootup, with ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext complaining about some CPU index that wasn't expected or so. OK, so I thought "Well, if I remove the kext it should boot." I, unfortunately, only had a single layer DVD+RW, so I removed Xcode, languages and printer drivers as well. Burned the disk sucessfully. It would hang at "Got boot device:", with no panic or whatsoever. The kext wasn't the culprit, as I tried again without removing it and it hung at the same "Got boot device:" line. Left it for >1h or so, but no response. The vanilla DVD boots well in my old Celeron M 440/Intel 945GM. That's it. If anyone needs more information, I will be willing to provide. Thanks for the attention. P.S. I burned the striped-down DVD on a DVD-R and nothing. Hang at "Got boot device:" Also happens with my old laptop. P.S.(again) I think the panic is DSDT related. iNoob
I took a picture of the kernel panic. http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc01346oh3.jpg Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143094-solvedcant-boot-vanilla-install-dvd/#findComment-1015877 Share on other sites
iNoob
I disabled AHCI and was able to overcome this error. Now, due to the graphics drivers(I think), the only GUI I can see is a pointer over the text screen. Not bad. iNoob
Even better: It's installing right now! Some 30 minutes left. I found the answer for the problem in this forum, which was quite silly: close the lid while the DVD boots, and after there's no optical drive activity, open it. Surprisingly, it worked. A happy new year for all of you guys and gals! ^ ^ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/143094-solvedcant-boot-vanilla-install-dvd/#findComment-1021713 Share on other sites
