nayr14
I just got my i7 and Radeon HD4870. I take the Kalyway 10.5.2 and boot with -v. It loads for a while, then it appears to want to jump into the graphical installer (screen kinda goes white-ish) and my system reboots. Has anyone else expirienced this problem? Thanks, Ryan Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142928-i7-crash/ Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Try a more modern distro. iATKOS 5i, iDeneb 1.3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142928-i7-crash/#findComment-1014166 Share on other sites
nayr14
Thanks for the advice, but I had the same issue. It loaded up the kernel stuff, then it appears to change resolution, a bunch of stuff flys accrost the screen and it reboots. I tried iATKOS 5i (10.5.5). Any other ideas? UnaClocker
Which video driver did you select? I'd recommend EFI strings, they've worked very well for me. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142928-i7-crash/#findComment-1014971 Share on other sites
nayr14
I didn't get a chance to select anything, I just type -v at bootup (from CD, nothing installed yet) and it crashes just after that (when it appears to want to load the installer). UnaClocker
Well hell yes it's not going to install right if you don't customize the install. You HAVE to select some options, you won't even get SATA support without going through the options. Why is it always newb's that get the latest and greatest toys? Never someone that has a clue.. nayr14
From what I have read, you need to be in the installer and click customize to do this customization. I am unable to accomplish this. If you can customize without going into the graphical installer, please let me know what I should do. FYI: Until now I was running a Intel P4 @ 3GHZ w/HT, 2GB DDR @ 400MHz, and an ATI Radeon X1650 AGP. I do admit that I am a newb with installing MacOSX on a PC. Thanks, Ryan EDIT: I am running the P6T Deluxe currently. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142928-i7-crash/#findComment-1015327 Share on other sites
UnaClocker
Ahh, you're not even getting into the installer? Wow, that's really odd, it should just work. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142928-i7-crash/#findComment-1015330 Share on other sites
nayr14
I was saying that in the above posts... is there a way I can freeze it to see the last message before it trys to go into the graphical installer? I wonder if anyone else has installed with an i7 or a Radeon 4870 yet? If so, please post here (along with your mobo model). UnaClocker
Grab your X1650 out of your old machine, and toss it in this new one, see if you can get past this problem. nayr14
Well, like I said my X1650 is AGP (not PCIe) so that wont work. I also installed Mac on the old machine too, just wanted to see it now. Ryan EDIT: I just tried again without -v, and it goes to the white apple loading screen for a split second then crashes... nayr14
I took a 30FPS video of it, and this is the last frame that came up (it starts darwin before this, then crashes right after this) This is the INSTALLER.
