I presume you typed these at the ":/ root#" prompt.......

i don't know.. i guess! i pressed F8 at booting and then -s, and i tried by typing those things i wrote in my first post. do you have some solution for me?

1. When you boot into single user mode using -s at the Darwin "boot: prompt", wait until you see the ":/ root#" prompt appear before typing each of the following lines, followed by Enter and then waiting for ":/ root#" to re-appear.

2. Mount the file system by typing "mount -uw /" (without quotes) at the ":/ root#" prompt.

3. Change the root password by typing "passwd root" at the ":/ root#" prompt and then typing in a new root password and retyping it again as requested.

4. Create the .AppleSetupDone file by typing

"touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone" (without quotes) at the ":/ root#" prompt

5. Boot the system by typing "exit" (without quotes) at the ":/ root#" prompt.

6. Reboot from HDD with "-v -f" and the OS X Login screen is presented; enter "root" as Name and for Password, the root password chosen previously, and the system logs you in as System Administrator.

i still get -sh: passwd: command not found message! what is -sh? and cant see ":/ root#" anywhere! :(

and after typing -s and waiting a little bit I'm getting this:

-sh-3.2#

am i the only one who gets this message: -sh: passwd: command not found???? i haven't seen anyone who gets it!

i came to this problem when i had kalyway installed.. here is the code that fixed it for me..

press F8 righh at darwin boot.

then type exactly as follows

"mount -uw /

touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

passwd root"

Do not put in quotes

when u type in pass wd root u will get an option to set your own password.. once u type a new password

press exit then enter, then type exit again. This should reboot and get u into OS X.

i typed exactly like you said, and after "passwd root" line i'm having same problem again:

-sh: passwd: command not found

why am i getting this message??? maybe i did something wrong during the booting? why can't i choose new password for root?

I'm having this problem right now. Not sure what to do about it. I guess a clean install, just in case.
